Hi. Ive just discovered this website and thought Id give it a go.
My symptoms are as follows. Ibs symptoms but only get a bloated tummy when Im stressed. I have permanent blood in my stools and in the pan but Ive had a barium enema and a sigmoidoscopy last year and they ruled out anything serious like cancer, chrohns etc. Said it might be haemoiroids but they werent sure!!!!
I get a severe urge to use my bowels and sometimes Ive passed wind and mucus comes out by mistake. I have to go to the toilet about four times a day and its nearly always loose and watery with blood in. Also I have really bad wind when I use the loo and its quite loud!! Very embarassing.

I went to see a nutritionalist about five months ago and she said I was dairy and yeast intolerant. But Im sick to death of this now. I want to feel normal again and not worry about making sure I know where the nearest toilets are.

Is anyone the same as me??

You need a colonoscopy, IMO. Find a new doctor.

Usually a colonoscopy is needed to completely eliminate things like Crohn's & microscopic colitis. Are you seeing a gastroenterologist? I would not be happy until I had the full scoping by a specialist.

Loose, watery bowel movements can be a symptom of celiac disease, which must be diagnosed by a blood panel (4 tests) plus upper endoscopy w/biopsy. However, bleeding is not typical with celiac.

Likewise, food intolerances like dairy & yeast can contribute to bloating & diarrhea, however, bleeding is not typical. Have you tried the special diet to
the best of your ability? If you have done this, and it has made no difference in your symptoms, more testing is in order.

There are a host of gut disorders, beyond those you have mentioned, that may be responsible for what you are experiencing. Please push for further testing, and for referral to a specialist.

Best wishes.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I had the rigid and flexible sigmoidoscopy with biopsies and then a barium enema and nothing sinister showed up. The doctors eliminated diverticulitis, crohns and thankfully cancer.

However they did mention that the bleeding may be from haemoroids very high up in the intestines. I had a twin pregnancy and my symptoms started 8 months later so the haemoroids were probably caused by that.

However what isnt linked to the Haems is the mucus, watery stools and constant diarreah(sorry cant spell) and the chronic wind!!

Do you think I should still ask for the colonoscopy??

Hey Scouse Mouse,

Please get a colonoscopy. I had the same symptoms and they did determine that it was from internal hemms. I do have some diverticulosis though.

The thing is, if I had not had the scope and just gone with the sigmoid they would have missed the 2 Adenomatous Polyps that were in my ascending colon. Those are pre-cancerous and by the time I was 40 I could have had colon cancer. I am only 35. Sometimes a Barium misses small polyps.

The colonoscopy is a breeze, and from what I here much more comfortable then a flexi-sigmoid. You are out like a light with it and I felt no pain at all. The prep is the worst part of it. They have pills you can take now, rather then swallowing the nasty stuff. I loved the Visicol pills.

Please just get the scope and find another Gastro doc. You probably do have internal hemms, but in the long run the colonoscopy is worth it for your peace of mind.
