Hi Kimann and all,
I hate to brag about my success after reading your posts, Kim, I feel sad for what you're dealing with. Definitely let us know when you finally get something done to relieve your foot pain!!
I'm making slow steady progress. The Dr. called me Thursday (yes, he called me!) and asked how my foot was. I let him know about my tingly feelings and shooting pain up to my toes. He said it was nerve entrapment that didn't worry him. Good thing, it worried me too, Kim! He told me to start putting some weight on it, but only when I'm wearing my sexy size 9 men's black Velcro sneaker. In three days of that, it's come along quite well. I can't put a lot of weight on it, but I use it to walk pretty well now. I start out strong in the AM, and fade as the day wears on it. I have to remove the sneaker about dinnertime each night, my foot swells and turns purple every night.
I have an appointment on Wed., we'll see what he thinks. Someday maybe I can drive my car again! I'm so thankful for my husband and kids doing the driving, cleaning, cooking, you know...That's all folks! Kim

I really should catch up on other posts before I go off on a thread. Kimann, I am 41 on May 17. I do take supplements, eat lots of veggies and yogurt, etc. (I've lost 20 lb.s since surgery!) and it was so nice and warm in NH lately that I fell asleep on my deck and got a sunburn. Oops! Luckily, I have no real reason to hurry my recovery because I have the luxury of working at home as a bookkeeper, so I can still take it easy.
Footsy, mish mish, and everyone else, there is light at the end of the tunnel, I promise you! Each time you realize you feel better, or do more, later in the day than the week before, you'll see progress. I agree that a bath or a trip out is still exhausting for me, although the bath is better without the cast cover project.
The big thing in my life right now is my house addition. I have a pile of lumber outside that will be a deck, a 12 x 21 sunroom kit in my shed, a hottub sitting in my driveway, all paid for, and no contractor to put it all together. The guy says he's coming over, but contractors are a pain in the neck! All I've wanted for a while now is to be able to put my foot in that tub on the week of Mother's Day/my birthday. WAAHHH! Kim

Kim, girl, PLEASE don't feel bad, you have done at least your share of time, and mine will improve. I am so glad your outcome is improving! it will be good to know how much bone regeneration you have next visit, it sounds like you're doing all the right things, and just need time. Contractors are no different in rural MO, happy to promise work, take a hefty down, but supplies, stack them outside your home, and disappear!!! We have siding under the deck, to replace what hail tore up, and are still waiting for the workmen to come. not the first time. I hope you get your hottub, everything else can wait, lol. And, yes, it is good to count our blessings, esp people who love us and do their level best to care for us.
I didn't go to ed, a friend fell, and my folks went in my stead to look after her, she wasn't released until after midnight, and was alone. I feel kinda cruddy whining about my probs, yanno? But I will soon, 1/2 hour, call and tell him I need the wedge cut, and I will have it cut regardless of who/where. Done being a sweet, meek, MORON. Ready to show teeth :D
Good luck, Kim, and thanks to everyone for thoughts & prayers. k

Good morning Kim and Kimann, Glad to read about both of you.
Kim, sounds like things are falling into place for you. Contractors are definitely a pain in the butt. We had our bathroom remodeled. Signed a contract in January. Got it scheduled for Apr 4 - the date of my original single foot surgery. So I changed the dates to a little later. When I got the go ahead to get both feet done, then I tried to change the date Everything was supposed to be finished the week before my surgery. As it worked out contractors were working in here the day after I got home. Also our detached garage that started being built in January is almost complete, we still have insulation and drywall to be put up. That start's this Wednesday. The heating & ac contractor was also here the day after my surgery. Anyway, I hope you get your hot tub. A new deck and porch was our next project, but I'm waiting till next year for that project. I'm worn out from dealing with contractors.
Kimann, Sorry to hear about your friend. Good luck with your call. Show your teeth. Stand up for what you want. Keep us posted after your call. Hope you are able to get your siding done sometime soon.
Have a good day to all. Deb

Hello, peoples!
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. His assistant took off the cast, and went to talk to him, came back, and put a new one on. She did pad this one, the old one was just the thin liner, and said she really thought it would help. Doc said he "could" cut it but really didn't want to. Might bivalve later (anterior split, I don't think it would help) if needed, but didn't like wedging the heel. Is very cautious and wanting to protect the set, it is well and truly my only chance for a functioning joint. He assured me he thought this one would be ok, and said to call if it wasn't. I'm a little skeptical, but really, really wanting them to be right, so we will see. We talked about positions, and instead of the large cushions I've used, I will try to find a way to elevate and support from the knee to midcalf without the heel touching the support. This should make any pressure higher in the top, where it won't bother me.
His assistant told me something today in casual conversation (about her many jobs) that I did not know. He is THE foot and ankle man in Branson and Spfd. When a case is uncertain, they refer to him. When a case is bungled, they refer to him.
So, while I'm not really liking his "phone manner", I DO feel MUCH more trusting than I did. When I actually see him, he is very polite, even if a little rushed. I wonder how many of us base our trust on responses to a Doctor's "manner" instead of on their education, skill, reputation???
I hope you all have a good night, I know that I am going to sleep around the clock!!! Take care, and thank you so much! Kim :D

Kim Glad you found out some positive information from your doctor. Even if he didn't have time to call you, his assistant should have. I don't get to talk to my doctor at all. I always talk to his assistant. He also is one of the busiest and well known sports medicine doctors in the area. He has done several knee surgeries on my husband. It takes a while to get appointments with him and then longer for surgeries. He leaves appointments open for emergencies, like the ones my husband had. He needed an appointment and had surgery two or three days later. Everything was rushed for him.
Anyway it is very irritating when someone does not return the call. Best of luck and hope things get better for you. Deb

G'mornin, everyone.
My blessings: My family. Took me to doc, out to a late lunch, and to grocer's, used a wheelchair, and while it's strange to admit it, I did enjoy it. Maybe a bit of cabin fever? My yorkie, who let me know how I was missed, and is going to have serious neurosis when I go back to work! My pretty pink cast. I've been wearing a lot of pink, it is cheering, and some shades are flattering to my skin tones, so I made some crutch pads of a similar shade.
Bummer, though, that the new, padded cast didn't keep the pressure off my nerve. I know he's in surg today, but will call anyway. Hope to set a pillow on the sofa so I'm high enough to dangle off the floor for some napping.
Does anyone know if elevation is still "crucial" at 5 weeks & change??? Cast off, the ankle slightly swollen, proximal digits sligthly swollen, nothing overly bad. So maybe I should just not elevate?
I'll check in later, gonna go for now. Thanks, everyone. K

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better.
I'm not sure what the rule of thumb is for elevating. Here's an off-the-wall thought. Could you lay on your stomach with your leg(s) bent at the knee? Maybe with some pillow wedged in, it might be tolerable for short periods. Someone on this website recommended a child's size bean bag chair for elevation. I find that works best as you could distribute the weight along the calf.
