I have an anal fissure that is painful when i urinate and have bm. Does anyone have a suggestion on something i can use for pain. i am using A&D ointment right now per the dr. Any help would be appreciated.

I use hemorrhoid wipes and anusol hc when it flares up.

I have had a couple of fissures in the past and if you keep your bowel movements very loose by eating a lot of fiber and also have the doctor prescribe you a nitroglycerin ointment to apply up in your rectum, it should heal the fissure in a couple of weeks. I had two of them before and that nitroglycerin helped heal them. Just remember though you will get headaches as a side effect from the nitroglycerin. I know that Prep H, Anusol, A&D, and everything else I used did not help one bit with healing the fissure or pain. Hope this helps?

My daughter had a painful fissure a few years ago, before the nitro ointment was approved here in Canada. She had surgery to cut the muscle, and the recovery was long. She then got the ointment and was finally pain free. You should get this ointment from your doctor - also soak in a "sitz" bath (you can buy it at a drug store or wal mart), in warm water.

P.S. My daughter has to take Metamuscil for ever !!!!! - every single day.

I have heard everyone's testimonal on nitroglycerin ointment, and i am on it right now, but i have a question to everyone, how do you apply it, do you just rub it on, or do you have to put it inside, i have looked everywhere on the internet, but no one has an answer they just say apply it to the anal region.
