ARIZONA73 12-31-2002, 11:47 PM I believe it's acceptable. arkie6 01-01-2003, 12:57 PM A fasting glucose of 113 mg/dl is not necessarily bad, but it's not good either. It indicates that you are likely insulin resistant. Are you overweight? Do you have high bloodpressure? Are your blood lipids abnormal (high total cholesterol, low HDL, high triglycerides)? These are other potential markers for insulin resistance and elevated insulin levels. Optimum fasting glucose levels are 70-90 mg/dl. 90-110 is currently a kind of grey area, although studies have shown long term risks associated with these levels. Over 110 mg/dl places you in the category of Impaired Glucose Tolerance which is basically medical speak for insulin resistance. Above 125 mg/dl places you in the category of diabetes. My wife's doctor had us come in ASAP because she was 110. She is young and caght it early and was called (pre-diabeties). If you catch it early in stages, it can be controlled by eating habbits. I recommend to have a blood test every 6 months to check the suger levels. No suger and no carbs. This will insure you that your suger levels will go down. |
