I am a little concerned about my son. He is 12 weeks old and weighs over 15 pounds already! The doctor has told me that he is totally healthy and that it isn't something to worry about, but, selfishly I'm sad because he's already in 6 month clothing and I feel like I've missed out on the little baby stage! Do you think his weight gain will taper off? I mean, if he keeps going at this rate he'll be like 50 lbs. at a year old! I have kept him on a normal schedule breastfeeding, every 3 to 4 hours for only a half hour at a time and he is sleeping through the night, so he only gets about five or six feedings a day. I have considered maybe shortening his feeding time to only 10 minutes a side to see how he does. What do you all think?

My DS is 7 weeks and he is over 13 pounds so far. He was only 7 pounds 5 ounces when we brought him home. The doc does not seem concerned yet. I am sure it is fine!

most babies that i know of are in double the size in clothing - if they are 3 months they wear 6 month size and 6 months of age wears 12 month size...
He is fine - especially if the Dr's say he is - keep feeding him as is - I wouldn't worry at all. As soon as the chubster babies start walking etc. and then RUNNING everywhere - they lose the weight QUICK.

I wouldn't shorten his feedings, that could impact your milk supply. I have read that they tend to even out by a year old, and that up until then weight gain is a hit and miss thing. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. If he's healthy I wouldn't worry about it.

My son was just under 17 pounds at 3 months. If the doctor says he is healthy, don't worry about it. I wish the clothing companies would sell clothes by weight, not age. It would make so much more sense. My son is 9 months old, and wearing 18-24 month clothing!

I think its selfish to worry about an infant's weight. Even considering putting an infant on a diet is a bad idea. DS is 6months and probably about 25lbs. His length and his weight are in the 91st percentile, that is what is important. If your child's weight was in the 91st and his length in the 70th, then I could understand the concern.
Babies are supposed to be chubby in appearance. Don't you think the rolls are adorable?? I love my boy's rolls on his thighs and arms, he's a big boy and I never once thought he was overweight. Once he starts crawling and walking I know he will lose it. I think about myself, I was chubby up until I hit high school. Then, all of a sudden the baby fat fell off. Don't ask me how or why it took so long, but it did.
Shortening the feeding times can not only decrease your milk supply, it can hurt the baby. Babies shuold eat when they are hungry not when you think its time. I do know everybody has different parenting tecniques, but nutrition is crucial in the first year. Oh, and you are breastfeeding and studies show exclusively breastfed babies have better eating habits than bottlefed. The reason? Apparently, babies stop eating when they are satisfied at the breast, but chug the whole bottle if they can.

LOL, don't worry! You ahve a big healthy baby, that should be able to sleep thru the night now if you let him!
My 7 month old is 24 lbs and 31 inches long, I too have a big guy! He wears 18 month or 2T clothes already.

My dd is 3 months old and weighs 15-16 lbs. (not exactly sure, just weighed myself with her in my arms.) At her 2 mo appt she was 14 lbs. I was a little concerened that I was overfeeding her, but my ped said, no way...she is VERY heathy! So I stopped worrying about it and never changed her feeding schedule. DD is wearing 3-6 months stuff, and she just turned 3 months a week ago. Its already starting to get kind of small for her. I think your baby is perfectly fine, and besides fat babies are SOO cute.

Really try not to worry about weight...but also know that most people have a little worry about it every now and then...either because they think their baby is too big or too small! Also, remember that the growth charts are a guide only. Whatever you do don't limit the amount that your baby wants to eat - especially if you are breastfeeding because unlike formula, the consistency of breastmilk changes during the feed. The fore milk is very watery and thirst quenching and the hind milk is rich and full of fat. If you limit the amount of time he feeds he'll only get the fore milk and not the fat rich nutritious hind milk that is essential for growing healthy bones, nerves and brain.
