How do you convert the reading on your gluclose meter to milimoles like we have in Canada. Alot of the sites I have been to are in USA readings. Like 85 or 130 or something like that. Normal range in milimoles is 4 to 6. Please help if you can. Thanks

mmol/l (millimoles/liter)is the unit for measuring glucose in blood in most parts of the world other than the US. mg/dl (milligrams/deciliter) is the traditional unit for measuring bG (blood glucose) in the US.

To convert mmol/l (SI units) of glucose to mg/dl (US units), multiply by 18.

Example: 4 mmol/l x 18 = 72 mg/dl
Example: 6 mmol/l x 18 = 108 mg/dl.

To convert mg/dl of glucose to mmol/l, divide by 18.

Example: 125 mg/dl / 18 = 6.94 mmol/l

These factors are specific for glucose because the conversion depends on the mass of one molecule (the molecular weight). The conversion factors are different for other substances, cholesterol and other blood lipids for instance.
