alright, about a year and a half ago i had protected sex, 1 time (i know 1 time is all it takes) with a questionable female. At 3 months and at 6 months i had std/sti tests for the major ones like hiv and others, and they all came back negative. I thought up till now that the bloodtest was also for hsv-2 genital herpes, but I found out today after phoning the center that they only do herpes tests as a viral cultural on the sores. To my knowledge I have never had any sores on or around my penis, and I never thought anything about herpes. My new girlfriend (of 8 months now), developed a cold soar on her lip about 1 month after we first started having oral sex, but she says she has regularly had cold sores all her life. This is what has me worried. I could deal with knowing i had it but I couldn't deal with knowing I gave it to her. Do hospitals and clinics do tests for herpes in ways other than the viral cultural? I am a canadian resident if that means anything. Thank you all for your help, God bless.
