hugs28 05-09-2006, 12:46 AM at what temp would you call the doc? 9 month old pittbulllover 05-09-2006, 06:38 AM Anything over 100.4 that lasts more than 24 hours. Or if it spikes over 103. hugs28 05-09-2006, 09:29 AM how's 104? I called last night and they told me to give him tylenol, as I don't have anything else here right now, and to go in, in the morning, will update you later. thanks Valerie_s 05-09-2006, 11:29 AM 104  I would totally take him in!, Is it still high? Hope he is feeling better DontAsk 05-09-2006, 03:28 PM OH MY GOD!!Take that child to the ER!!! Thats INSANE for your Dr to say that! Did your child have a virus? A fever is the way a baby fights off a virus! You NEED to take the baby to the ER! hugs28 05-09-2006, 05:13 PM we did not go to the ER, we went to the docs today at 1130am, they found nothing, lungs are clear, ears are fine, throat is fine etc... they think it is viral and sent my son for blood work, however, they wanted it stat, but my insurance don't cover it. the fever was normal when I went in, but i gave him tylenol at 9am, it is now 5pm and I just took it, it was 101.8 so getting back up there. bad thing is, I cannot go to the local hospital, cause it is out of network now, which stinks bigtime, I would have to go 45 minutes away to be covered. I think I am in for another LONG night, we got the blood work done, however have to await the results. my poor baby :( debating 05-09-2006, 05:37 PM A baby with a fever is worth a 45 minute drive to be covered!! hugs28 05-09-2006, 07:28 PM I know that. they told me there was no need, that is why I did not go hugs28 05-09-2006, 09:17 PM all he wants to do is sleep, fever is 102.6 right now, I cant break it, any other suggestions? debating 05-09-2006, 10:30 PM If it were me I'd drive the 45 minutes. They didn't at least prescribe you an antiviral? A fever, especially in a baby, is nothing to mess around with. shelliam 05-09-2006, 10:58 PM Cool baths will help and try switching and using the motrin at night. It breaks fevers better and last 8 hours. rouge 05-10-2006, 10:16 AM I don't really worry about high fevers. If it went over 104 then I would take him in. Kids get higher fevers than we do. pittbulllover 05-10-2006, 11:27 AM To Don't Ask: EASY KILLER! A fever of 104 does NOT require a trip to the emergency room, IF it is brought down by tylenol and doesn't last more than 24 hours. Babies spike high fevers ALL THE TIME!!! Don't freak new moms out like that. She has received good advice from her ped and as long as baby is feeding normally and otherwise healthy a spike in fever does not require an immediate run to the ER> DontAsk 05-10-2006, 11:47 AM HMMM From what I read it went down, but went right back up...I dont know, I have 4 kids but I would bring my child to the ER if he was that high, and especially if it lasted over 24 hrs. According to what she said, the baby has not had a normal telp for a few days now. I would take that as SOMETHING IS WRONG! Reguardless of what the Dr says, but thats just my own opinion! hugs28 05-10-2006, 04:22 PM well we are done for now I guess, I was on the phone again last night with the doc, cause when he woke up he had me sweating holding him, I took his temp, it was 104.7 in the ear, gave him tylenol, (still didn't have the motrin, stupid me didn't get it yesterday, just wanted to get him home), then I put him into the bath, which brought it down to 101 something. Doc told me to bring him in right at 9am for a urine test and to look him over again. Then he woke up with 103.5, Well we did that, still nothing wrong with the ears, throat, chest nothing, did the urine, all was fine there too, so they sent me for a chest xray to rule out "hidden pnumonia" sp? that was negative also, so until the cultures come back, it is being taken as viral, as there was nothing bacterial in anything, and we just have to keep giving him the tylenol, or motrin, (which I have now) and let it run its course, as long as it comes down when I give the medicine, if it does not come down after dosing, then I need to go to the ER. Thanks for the concern and the thoughts, all is appreciated :) debating 05-10-2006, 05:12 PM Don't freak new moms out like that. Whoa! Telling a new mom to er on the side of caution is NOT freaking them out. Just because you feel comfortable handling a 104 (and higher), doesn't mean everyone is. If it were me, I would go to the ER. Take it or leave it. DontAsk 05-10-2006, 05:31 PM Thank You!! Glad SOMEONE sees my point! Im not a new mom and I would have been there! hugs28 05-10-2006, 05:54 PM ok guys :nono: hugs28 05-11-2006, 09:47 AM well, so far so good, he had a fever yesterday late afternoon, I gave him the tylenol, I didn't wanna give him the motrin, I wanted to wait for bed with that, and if I gave it to him at that time, I would not have been able to give it to him at bedtime, anyway, his fever came down, and he did not go to bed with a fever, but I gave him the motrin anyway, well he had no fever all night long, woke up without a fever also, I have not given him any medicine since about 9pm last night, hopefully this is over. thanks for ALL the input you have ALL given me. DontAsk 05-11-2006, 11:21 AM FYI: you can alternate Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hrs! ;) hugs28 05-11-2006, 01:37 PM I know, but the motrin is every 6-8 hours, if I gave it to him at 4pm, I would not have been able to give it to him just before bed, which is what I wanted to do. DontAsk 05-11-2006, 01:43 PM I was just letting you know for future refenences b/c I didnt know that till my 2 yr old was little with a fever and the Dr told me that! Just sharing my hints to new moms Maxx09 05-11-2006, 02:38 PM My four year old daughter has always ran high fevers. The first time she got sick she was about 1 and when I got her to the er it was 104. The nurse looked at me in shock and said This baby is sick. I wanted to say no *****, why do you think I'm in the er?? Well, it was an ear infection. Next time and every time since then when she gets sick it's HIGH. I still haven't gotten used to it. Thank God she hardly ever gets sick! The only bad thing is she has a phobia of docs and hospitals because they freak out every time and do bloodwork and urine work. Last time she couldn't pee and they had to do a cath. It's like I want to take her cuz I want to get meds started but it's always such a bad experience for her I hate to put her thru it. What I'm trying to say is I understand both sides. Do you stay or do you go? Also that tylenol/motrin thing works really good. I have to do that almost every time. Tylenol really doesn't do much anyways. I'm definitely a motrin (ibuprofin) fan. DontAsk 05-11-2006, 02:48 PM I agree Maxx...I use ONLY Mortin, unless its BAD then i use both but Mortin is a lifesaver!!! :bouncing: hugs28 05-11-2006, 04:07 PM thanks, I actually did not know the tylenol/motrin thing til the other day, but it was too late for me to do that, I did not get it until yesterday, then only used it once, and I almost don't think he needed it last night, just was to be on the safe side. thanks again DontAsk 05-11-2006, 04:21 PM Hope Hes Better Soon!! Poor Lil Man hugs28 05-11-2006, 04:40 PM well I think I got my answer lol, I wish I could show you all a photo, but I think he got roseola, he has a rash now. I called the doc and told them what it looked like and they said probably. yeah at least it is done, and he won't get it again, or shouldn't at least. thanks |
