My husband has been having low blood sugar, but not very---around 5mml or 90 dl. He gets the shakes and sweats and has to eat right away. The MD says to take a candy everywhere he goes because there is nothing he can do about it. Supposedly he is not diabetic. Isn't having low blood sugar a form of diabetes??? I t is a terrible feeling. He also takes lipitor. Could that be a problem????? Please help!!!!! He also eats quite regular too and this still happens.

Definitely consider Lipitor. Go to this site and read about problems others have while on Lipitor: http://www.dispace.com/message_boards/default.htm
If eating does not correct the problem, then check other causes. If he eats protein along with a candy bar it will sustain him longer. In other words the candy bar will raise the blood sugar level and then it will suddenly drop. Protein helps to stabalize the sugar and avoid the sudden drop.

Eating sugar causes your blood sugar to rise and then fall. In pre-diabetes the blood sugar falls dramatically and gives you the feeling you need to eat again. I would recommend the Atkins diet with little or no sugar. That will stabalize his sugar and prevent the big falls. I think he will feel far better once he gives up sugar...especially at night.
