View Full Version : Horrible shaving rashes

I get horrible rashes on my neck when I shave. The problem is compounded because my hair grows very very low on my neck (half way down to my chest) causing me to have to shave a lot of my neck area, which is the only part being inflamed after I shave.

I do all the necessities to prevent it (shave while taking hot shower, only shave when needed, shave with the hair, use aftershave, etc) but I still get it. I can't not shave because of another problem, my neck area gets extremely itching when I don't shave (but no rash).

Switching to an electric razor makes the problem infinitely worse (and I seem to have better luck using Mach 3 razors than any other razor).

Also I'm a white male with extremely straight hair (I've read that most shaving rashes occur in blacks or people with curly hair so...)

Anyone know of any creams, lotions, medications, etc I can take for this (without going see a dermatologist)? I see the new Gillette advanced skin care treatment but it's very expensive.

I am Albanian and with much more hair than others my age. I always had problems shaving, especially my neck like you. I tried shaving cremes, shaving foam, shaving oil, and of all Gillette Series worked best. When I shave everyday I get rashes no matter what I do, but when I shave every other day or every 3 days, it is much easier to shave. So what if I got a messy look for a day. It's normal. Give your skin time to recover. Shaving everyday makes it bad.

Also, apply the creme twice, three times, or w/e is neccessary so the razor glides smooth. I like a clean shave so I go with the grain once, apply another cover of shaving creme and go against the grain for a closer shave.

Try the Fusion. Its very nice. Not much work done by you. Just move it along. Don't put pressure on your skin by pushing down the razor, thinking it will work better. It will just make it worse.

tediousasi, thats smart to shave after you shower.
When you shave. Are you shaving down.
Its definitely best to shave down and not up.
What shaving cream are you using?
I'v tried alot of shaving creams including the expensive one's at Whole Foods that put alot of vitamins in the shaving cream.
The best shaving cream is the Colgate Aloe one.
I like the Gillette Sensor Excel razor.
I'v always liked the 2 blade razor over the 3 blade Mach 3.
The 2 blade just feels smoother on my face.
After you shave, its important you put a lotion on the area's you shave.
I use the Olay Complete UV Defense Moisture Lotion for sensitive Skin.
It has Aloe, Vitamin E, SPF 15 and Zinc Oxide. Its Non- Comedogenic and has no oil in it. It feels really good on my face and neck.
I tried the Avalon face lotion.
That was horrible. It made my face feel so oily.

I tried everything I could over the last twenty years but nothing would stop the terrible rash after shaving - until now.

I now use a product (I think it's from the USA) called "TendSkin" and it's absolutely amazing. Very expensive, but you don't need much and I saw the improvement within just a few days.

I bought mine from: [ deleted ]

Hope that helps
