Hi I am 24 and have diabetes type 1 for 20years now.
I am looking into going on the pump. I am wondering if anyone has had any problem with extra curricular activitie and the pump. has it gotten in the way excetra. I really need to get my BS under control and this seems to be my last option. I take 4-5 needles a day and eat right exersise and nothing works. so the pump I am hoping will.

I have been on the pump for 7 years. I went on it when I turned 20 years old. At first it will get in the way but after about 4weeks it will just be part of you. When I first got my pump I was married, but i recently separated and it is a little uncomfortable when you are just starting to date someone new but if they don't understand that is their problem. I haven't had any problems the guys that I have been dating find it interesting.

Thanks My bf will be coming with me once I go learn how it works. I am just wondering if it will get in my way when I am motorcycle racing? I wear a full leather suit and don't know how I will get it under there. any suggestions.

Have you decided which pump you're going to get? The Paradigm, by Minimed Medtronics, is one of the smallest.

There are all kinds of accessories you can get to wear the pump. Minimed has a waist belt, ankle belt, knee belt, and bra holder. All of them come with a pocket to keep the pump in.

Plus, the pump is pretty small, and it should fit under your jacket. Even without a special belt, I just clip it on to the waistband of my pants, and it looks like a beeper. The tubing gets covered by my undies, with just a very short (maybe 2-3 inch) length sticking out of the waistband of my pants.

Once you get used to it, I bet you'll love it!

well I think I am going to get the minimed 508 because that's the only one right now they offer in Canada.

Just a question How does the pump affect your sex life?
Is it awkward?
