Hello- I'm new here. I had gestational diabetes with both my babies, and now (3 yrs later) I'm borderline fasting and very carb/sugar sensitive. I'm trying to stay on the diabetic diet and need to lose 15 lbs. Lately, I've had bad mood swings (not PMS) and I've checked my blood sugar levels when I feel really moody--they were unusually high. Has anyone else found this relationship? I'm going to start checking at the first signs of yuckiness. Maybe I can avoid being so gripey with everyone http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
thanks

High blood sugar can cause this. Best to keep sugar level and steady rather than high and low sort of roller coaster.

i am 37 yrs old. i have been diabetic for 32 yrs. we just found out in nov. our 13 yr. old daughter is diabetic. she is on 3 shots a day. i seen the symptoms for a few weeks but did'nt want to face it. anyway since getting her to the hosp. and on shots and controlling her diet. her mood has improved 110%. high blood sugar does seem to affect moods.
GOOD LUCK

Oh YES, high bg's affect your moods! I went to my doc a few years back, complaining that I turned into a monster every morning at about 10:00 and then it got better after an hour or so. My doc said it could NOT be bg, and asked me if I had seen a psychologist. As a routine check, he checked my A1C and it was to the point of needing medication, finally. Once I started on Glucophage, the moods swings went away, so I got to say, "I told you so" to him! Even now, if I get out of control, my hubby asks me what my bg's are running. Also, I had a friend whose husband ended up in a psychiatric ward with bg's of over 400. Once they got under control, he was fine! So don't let any doc tell you that mood swings are not a part of diabetes!

OMG , no wonder I've been such a bich lately to my DH LOL !!! Long story, but, I quit smoking last Monday (8 days now), so, I've been eating a little more "candy/gum" than usual and I bet it's a combination of both. I am "glucose intolerant", and on Metformin. When this happens next time, I'm going to check my level on DH's monitor. But I can tell you, living with a full fledged (sp?) diabetic, YES, high blood sugars do cause mood reactions, and BAD ones. He gets extremely crabby.
GOOD LUCK
