Ever since I had my gal bladder out, life has been miserable. I can't go to a restaurant and even get through dinner before I have to have a bowel movement. It is to the point to where I take an anti diahretic before any trip out. Does anyone know how to take care of this, so I can have a normal life again?

thanks for all comments

I had my gall bladder out as well but never had any problems as you specified. Are you eating real greasy meals? Like french fries, deep fried chicken, etc? You don't have a gall bladder to help digest that type of grease so perhaps it is creating your symptoms.

Just a suggestion. You might want to ask your doctor.

There is something called bile salt diarrhea that is rather common post-GB surgery. See your doctor. There are medicines that will bind up the bile salts that you can take long term to control it.

Hi Bus,
About 5% of people that have their Gallbladders removed put out too much bile and w/o a GB to hold it until needed and if it even gets to the colon without being re-absorbed like normal in the last part of the small intestines--- Then you have diarrhea almost every time!! It is referred to as bile salt diarrhea. You can look it up on Google web at the top of this page.

The medication that is used to help the diarrhea is Questran-- it is a cholestrol reducing med that has a side effect of producing constipation in normal people but should work well for you. It also comes in a pill form.

I wish you well~~~Harry
