View Full Version : Tender feet after adding treadmill time

I know this question pales in comparison to a lot of the more important questions here, but after 4 back surgeries, I'm finally able to go to physical therapy on a regular basis and have been bumping up my treadmill time.

I've noticed that the pads of my feet are somewhat tender (especially the big one on the bottom of the foot just where the toes are connected.

I really want to keep up the pace I'm moving at, and was wondering if anyone had ideas for helping keep the feet less tender. I've only stepped it up like this for the last week and a half, so the tenderness might go away with time.

FYI, I'm walking about 1.5 miles, 5 days a week, at about 3.2 mph. Before my back surgeries, I could only do 1.7 mph. I'm also a big person, too.

forgive me if I'm stating the obvious.....but do you have good shoes?
I sometimes get a callous on the bottom of one of my toes from walking on my treadmill. If I put a roll of cotton in between the 2 toes it holds the toe differently, so it doesn't rub. I also have tried orthopedic inserts called Foot Cradles, they're made of leather and you insert them into your shoe. Also what about those gel inserts you can get at the drugstore? Haven't tried them, but a friend of mine loves them.

Good point, Rose.

I have Asics since I have wide feet, and they breathe a lot better. It probably is time for a new pair, so I plan to ask the person at the Athlete's Foot about comfort for walking. I always do buy the thicker pads than those that come with the shoes, just for comfort. Thanks for the info.
