Hi all,

My son was diagnosed Tuesday with Aspergers, ADHD, Dysgraphia (due to asperger's), and Oppositional Defiance Disorder. It has been a long struggle getting to this point.

We knew he was always different and super smart. Tests showed his IQ is 137. I can handle that of course!!! But what I can't handle is how he tries to interact with others. He picks, pesters, and just can't stay out of other's faces. He thinks this is interacting. I just can't find a way to teach him the right way to make friends.

Do any of you have this same problem and if so have you found anything that works? Thanks!

Hello...I have a 5 year old little boy who also has Aspergers. Im your discription of your son, you also discribed my son. Very smart but really bad with social interaction. My son has alot of trouble keeping his hand to himself, when he talks to someone he is right in their face, interupts, talks about his obsessions excessivly. How old is your son? Learn all that you can about Aspergers. These kids have alot of trouble understand personal space. What we have done with our son is put him in Behavioral Therapy. His therapist works with him on some of his obsessive & repitive behaviors, the defiance, and social beahviors. We have been doing this for 3 months and I can't tell you how much he has improved. He still has a way to go with it, but these behaviors have really cut back. Also, check in to some social stories classes. My son starts these this summer. I guess it helps them understand social interaction.

Tina...Justin 5 (Aspergers), Kelsey 3 (NT), & Megan 1 (Developmental Delay)

My son with Asperger's is 6. I also have a 9 year old with Tourettes, and then a 15 year old and a 3 year old.

I'm glad I'm not on my own. I'll check if there are any classes in my area(Milwaukee), I'm sure there are.
I spent the entire year telling the teacher that I didn't think he was doing this stuff on purpose and all I got back was the feeling that we are bad parents.

I'm just so relieved that he can move forward now after the diagnosis.

Thanks
