View Full Version : Females and ADD medications

I am 23 years old, female and recently diagnosed with ADD. I started on Ritalin and my doctor just switched me to Concerta because the Ritalin wasn't working very well. (I didn't see any benefits through the day and got edgy, inattentive etc as the medication wore off). I know they are basically the same thing just formulated differently.

I was taking 25mg of Ritalin and now on 36mg of Concerta. I noticed that this month I have not gotten my period yet. I am on birth control and my periods have been regular since I started birth control almost 8 years ago. My period was fine the past two months with the Ritalin also. Just this month it hasn't happened and I know I am not pregnant.

I was wondering if any other girls had this problem? Just trying to figure out if this is medication related or stress related?

Thanks!

Hi sc23, I just started Adderall so I don't have any advise there, but I have had problems with late periods when I was on medication...mostly antibiotics. It could be that your body is going through an adjustment to the medication and it is throwing other things off in your system. I am not a doctor so I am not really sure, but if you just started the medication is quite possible. I would call the doctor and see if this might be the case.

I am not a doctor, but what I have read it is stimulants that people with ADD need. When they take medications like Adderall and Ritalin it calms them down so they can focus.
