Has anyone had the test where they put dye into your disk to see if it is leaking....if it is...go to surgeon to determine if spinal fusion is needed? Is the test painful? SHELLEY

What is the exact name of the test? Is it acervical myelogram?

I have to admit that I found the test painful (1974) which is not of any help to you but, seemingly, my experience was and is unusual. The nursing sister in attendance thought I was being puerile in response but she was not aware of how close she was to being assaulted! I have since encountered others who have had the test without experiencing any discomfort. There was no adverse after-effect. Subsequenlty I had a lumbar-disc removed and have been okay since.

My myelogram was terribly uncomfortable. Placing the needle into the spine was absolutely nothing though - The radiologist used a tiny (25 gauge needle) to help prevent leaks. They drew off some cerebral spinal fluid for exam first, but the volume amount of dye injected surpasses the amt of CFS intially withdrawn which, I was told, gives the discomfort.
I was already terribly uncomfortable with my neck tipped back so far. When they put the dye in the pain went to my sacrum and my legs. It was VERY uncomfortable (a pressure type of uncomfortalbe) for about an hour and a half.
I didn't have to stay flat in the hospital long since the needle they used on me was so small. I think most have to lay flat for about 6 hours if I remember correctly.
Mine did provide good pictures the doc was wanting.
Good luck.
