I am not sure if this is where I should post this, but seeing that we have all had kids, I thought it would be a goodplace to start.

I am looking to start using some type of birth control until my DH can get fixed and was wondering what you guys are using. I have never been on any birth control before, (I thought I could not have kids), well I got pregnant on the first try so I guess I can!

I am TERRIFIED of getting pregnant again seeing as we only want one. I was looking into the "patch", but have heard of all kinds of problems with them. Or the pill?

Any suggestions?

Also, I heard the Depo shot causes MAJOR weight gain? Is this true in your experiences?

Read up on the shot--I posted a thread on the birth control board, and I got a lot of negative feedback on the shot. I also read some studies on where it can decrease your bone mass. My aunt also was on it for a while, and when she came off of it, she didn't get her period for another 6 months, and then it was all screwy. She's on the pill now.

I am on the pill, and it works fine for me, as long as you take it correctly. I heard a lot of nice things about the IUD's. You know, the one that kinda looks like a "Y" ? I read that it is more effective then getting your tubes tied!!

Like another poster said, everyone will react differently to BC. For me, unfortunately, it doesn't work well with my body. However, out of all the ones I've tried---patch, many different pills and ring. I can say I really liked the Nuvaring. You just change it once a month---the convenience facter was nice. However, with the ring and all BC's, I unfortunately got really sore, heave legs and small spider veins. I'm in my 20's and shouldn't have those yet. My mother dosen't even have them! So, needless to say, I got off all BC in general. My DH said he will get fixed as it's the easiest thing to do after we're finished having kids. :)

Oh well!

Wow, my SIL and I were just discussing thtis yesterday as we are both terriefied of getting pg again so soon!! I am still breastfeeding and am 5 weeks PP, I will be going to the doctor next week to discusss my options. I'm thinking I will just stick with the pill with the lowest dose of hormones since I've always felt like crap on BC pills. The shot sounds good , but like skeetersquirt said , imo it does cause weight gain b/c everyone i know who's been on it has "blown up". and im trying to lose this baby weight!LOL!
Maybe you should visit with your doctor to discuss what would be best for you.

I did discuss it with my doc at my 6 week visit, but I can't decide what to do. We tried condoms, but I have such a reaction to them that I can't STAND them. Poor DH has waited SOOO long and has been so good about it, that now I feel bad that I am not interested at all for fear of getting pregnant. I am breastfeeding and I am 8 weeks PP, so the doc said that it is very unlikley that I would get pregnant again right now, but it still scares me.

I guess I will do more research and see what might work for me. I was on the pill one time for a week and I was so wacked out I am scared to try it again.

What! Really? That is soooo bizarre.

I'll probably just stick to the pill :p I keep it by my bed stand so I never forget it!

I'm on the pill and I am so bad at remembering to take my meds that I was SURE this wasn't going to be the one for me. Well I put it on my night stand (like lex jude stated) and I always remember to take it. I put it right next to my iron pills bc they are extremely important to take, if I don't I can't function correctly.

This is my first time on any type of birth control (next to condoms) and I like the pill so far. I heard the patch can cause blood clots so I choose not to get it, plus I didn't meet the weight for it. YOu have to weight like 150 or less I think my midwife said.

Good luck on whatever you choose!

I use Ortho-Tri-Cyclen pills. I like getting an period every month so I know that everything is okay with me and what is also nice, it that it always comes every four weeks on a Tuesday and then you are period free by the weekend. My husband and I just had our daughter and we are done with kids, just one for us. I am exremely paranoid about getting pregnant and I am looking into having my tubes tied to prevent furture pregnancies. I know it sounds extreme but we are very serious and set one one and I get really scared about more babies. It would really throw everything in our lives off.

OrangeCoutour- I am with you on that one. It is only our little boy for us as well. We knew we only wanted one.

I did hear that IUD's can cause infections so I ruled that one out. I also heard the patch can cause blood clots and there are a lot of lawsuits out there now on these.

Abortion and Adoption are not options for us, so if I get pregnant again, we are keeping it..and I am terrified! I guess it will be the old tried and true pill for me then. I will have to keep it next to the bed so I will remember to take it.

I wish I could go back on the pill - I am on high blood pressure meds for 2-3 more months - due to the pregnancy still..... (i guess it can last up to 6 months after giving birth in some women)... anyway - I am scared to death about getting pregnant and haven't had sex only one time - in 15 weeks!! I know I know.....

I want only one - our little girl... but my hubby is not so sure - hence the reason I am terrified of becoming preggers again!! I had a rough pregnancy and such - and I don't want to go thru it again - I am a stay at home mama - and love it - but one is good for me!! I would like my tubes tied toooooo!! then I would have NO worries!! should have done it during my csection surgery!!!
