OK my girl is 15 weeks tomorrow - and she has been sucking and biting her hands/thumb a ton lately.... and just recently past 1.5 days sleeping ALOT!! like over load sleeping! anyway - today she spit up (burped up) while we were burping her and it had color mixed in with the formula (white kinda spit up).... its like an old blood (caramel) type color.

do you think her fingernail could have cut her gum at some point too? maybe that is the reason - it only was a little bit and its only happened once... or... Is she teething? can teething cause this kind of color of spit up? or is there something else going on - and I need to call the Pedi .... ?

I wouldn't worry at all unless it keeps happening. A weird color thing in her spit-up could be caused by a lot of stuff - cutting her gums like you thought, mucous (which when it hits air can go anywhere from white to green, yellow, or brown) plain old dirt (even if you think you're keeping a baby as clean as can be, they find dirt with their hands, trust me) or even, gross as it is, a bug.

Just wait as she gets older and you'll marvel at the color of all the stuff that will come out of her mouth!

I am with "AlltheLarsons" - my DD was quite a spitter and once she hit the 6 months stage and could have baby food - it was green, yellow, orange, etc.....so as they said, this sounds normal - but if it happens again and it really concerns you - call your Doc......otherwise, this is all normal......mine finally quit spitting up at about 7-7.5 months old.....

Well if she isnt eating any food I would call the pedeatricain, especially if it looks like an old blood, did she have a problem with acid reflux at all she may have an irritated esophogus, I say of your thinking blood I would call the dr especially if she isnt injesting anything of color, her fingernail would not cause bleeding
