View Full Version : Foot pain - arthritis - surgery ?? UPDATE

Just wanted to update you all and let you know the latest. :) In case you don't know my story, I had bone spurs associated with arthritis in my rt. foot which had done a number on the cartilage between my big toe bone and the first met. On 4/26 my spurs were removed, had to cut and drop down the met to provide space between the bones which was to allow more movement. Screwed back together and here I am. :D

Two week post-op appt. was on 5/11. Drove myself...I've been driving since the Mon. after my surgery which was on a Wed...w/my left foot. I did get two days of being waited on, was on my on that Sat. As a mother of 3 boys, make that 4..., it's the first down time I've had in who knows when!

Couldn't wait to get the bandages removed two weeks post op. Was very pleased with what I saw. Internal stitches made the incision less noticable. Pod cut about 3/4" to the left of the center of the top of the foot so the scar will be less obvious. It's almost on the side of my foot. Very little swelling and bruising. I have to wear my boot 1 more week. Doc said that I could drive with my right foot with a tennis shoe but to be very careful. I think I'll stick to my left foot for a while! The best news was that I could shower!! :p

I feel very lucky to be where I am in the healing process. Any yes, I am knocking on wood. Hopefully things won't take a turn. I am counting my blessings. It seems unfair for all of you who are having such a bad time. If it wasn't for all of your insight and tips, I probably wouldn't be where I am today. I kept it iced and elevated and took my pain meds on a regular schedule around the clock for the first 3 days just as you experienced folks recommended. I am so thankful for this website and for all of you!

Trying to keep up with you all...Titchou, Espda, Kimann plus others. I've got my pom poms and am cheering you on! Please let me know how you are doing. Would love to hear from you. Any other tips/recommendations/insights/comments would still be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Take care. :)

Hi! Glad you are doing so well. It is wonderful when you finally get the bandages off...had 2 surgeries on my left foot and both times that bugged me more than anything! Be sure to do any exercises he gave you. They are essential to getting the proper movement back. Keep us posted!

I'm glad you're doing so well! I agree, this forum, with all the suggestions from people further along in the process, has been a lifesaver! Its a shame our surgeons, or at the least, their assistants, don't communicate honestly what we can expect, or offer practical suggestions to enhance our recovery processes... I think its awesome that you are able to drive, even with your left foot, I don't have the heart to try it! Your success, and relatively few difficulties, is an inspiration, and should help lurking readers know that not everyone who has these surgeries suffers all the horrible side effects. Thank you so much for your positive input, and especially for your prayers! Kim

Today I get to walk with a regular shoe for a couple of hours (or until I get tired) for the first time, on my rt. foot. It's really wierd! At first I felt totally off balance :p since both feet are at the same level, and when I put the shoe/ bootie back on I feel strange too, feels too high! So crazy, I feel like a drunk! I still favor my foot and it still feels 'different'. How long before it feels normal again???? I have a bit of swelling but can wear my regular shoes. My foot feels thicker just around the joint of the big toe and the 1st met. Will this go down? Any thoughts? Thanks! Hope you all are doing well. :)
