Hello,
I'm new here. My mother called yesterday to tell me her sister has been diagnosed with diabetes and she wanted me to keep an eye on my blood sugar. My father and both of his parents had diabetes. I just learned my mother's mother had it too. The doctor told my parents when I was fourteen they needed to watch my blood sugar because I was borderline. I was diabetic with one of my pregnancies.
The reason I'm posting is because I'm now forty. About a week ago I started experiencing something that has me concerned. I've been feeling dizzy and lightheaded, kind of like I've been drugged. It gets worse when I lean forward, bend over or exert myself. There are times it feels as though my brain actually shifts (as in moving in my head).
I've tried several different changes in my routine: eating more often, getting more sleep, drinking less coffee and more water and such; nothing has helped. I also put on 25 pounds suddenly after starting school last fall. This surprised me because I became more active than usual, walking and climbing stairs and such. I had started eating more (better actually because up until then I had only eaten one meal a day).
Yesterday I realized I was getting emotional quiet easily and that is out of the ordinary too. Does any of this sound as though I might need to have my blood sugar tested?
Thank You
