View Full Version : Too high?

Quick question that has me a bit concerned ... I was going to a friend's tonight for a cookout, so I didn't eat too much today. On the way there, I was really hungry. I ended up stopping at a gas station and got a Mt. Dew and some gummie candies. (I know, not a good choice, but .... ) Anyhow, when I got there, she was testing her daughter's blood sugar (who is diabetic) and I had her check mine, just out of curiosity. It was 147, which she said was sort of high. Would this be because of what I had just eaten or do I have concern enough to see my dr? I'm 27, female, in fairly good health, a healthy weight, and exercise regularly. I'm not sure if those are factors ... I've been a bit worried all evening. Thanks in advance!

It is highly unlikely you have anything to worry about. Non diabetics spike after eating like that as well, everyone does it is just in diabetics it does not go back down. If you are curious have your friend check it after you have not ate for 8 hours. If it is between 70-120 then you are not diabetic. Mountain dew contains orange juice as a main ingredient. Even diet does so it will really spike you since orange juice raises glucose levels. And the gummy bears are pure sugar so that was probably a very normal reading for just ingesting that. Hope this makes you feel better.
