Hi everyone. I had a question for all of you. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what normal gluecose levels should be. I was recently in the ER and on the printout they have normal range 74-something...mine was 69. I was in the ER after blacking out at work...they called the ambulance...on the way to the hospital they weren't able to run an IV for blood...so they didn't get my blood until I was at the hospital for awhile. The doc couldn't tell me much...just that he wished they could've given me a blood test when it happened at work...would this have made my numbers lower you think??? It's just weird because I made sure I ate something that morning...had a bowl of Special K...and still blacked out. What do you think???

Non-diabetic fasting should be 70-110. Two hours after meals up to 120.

Your Special K cereal was not enough to last the morning
for you. Most cereal will absorb fast and drop the BS fast.

Try having protein along with carbs for meals. This will
help slow absorption of the carbs.

Yes, it is possible testing blood at time you passed out would have given a lower number. After they start a glucose IV it will raise the BS.

Hi,
I am hypoglycemic and it sounds like you had a blood sugar drop, your BS was probably in the 40's when you blacked out. Special K does not provide any substance to last. Did you have any symptoms like dizziness, shakiness, weakness, just an odd funny feeling like you couldn't think straight before blacking out? usually you will get some sort of warning its dropping. Eat a better breakfast and eat a mid morning snack and a midafternoon snack, stay away from sugar and refined foods as much as you can as they will not last in your system and your BS will drop rapidly.
Good luck.
