I have had a Mirena IUD inserted since October 2004. I have had no problems with it until somewhat recently. I have noticed that my moods have gone from up to down almost everyday. One day good, and one day bad. I would even go as far as to call it depression. But I don't know. I did see on a website that some side effects of Mirena were depression and mood swings. Well my moods have been on a hilly joy ride! :bouncing: I have an appt June 5th to maybe get it taken out and go back on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I was on that for years and I don't remember having this much problems with it. Plus it cleared up my face. I can't believe that I am 28 and still have acne! It sucks, big time! If anyone is out there with some advice, I would really appreciate hearing it! I just want my moods to get normal again.
Thank you!

i have had Mirena for almost a year now and i have not experienced any unusual mood swings or depression. although i did have severe depression and suicidal thoughts while on yasmin, and ortho tri-cyclen made me very ill. i guess i had never read that a side effect of mirena was depression. but now i think i'll keep a close watch on my moods.
i am the same age as you and i also have acne, which i think got significantly worse after having Mirena inserted. i struggled with it for a long time, trying to "cure" myself, but two weeks ago my doctor put me on Tazorac and my skin is doing great.

I am glad that you are not having any symptoms and I hope you never do. It is the weirdest thing. I am not exactly for sure that Mirena is the reason for my mood swings, it is just a thought. I have also almost had it get stuck where they could not find the strings and had to pull it down some. I guess I am worried that it is going to get stuck and then I will need surgery to get it out. I just am starting to feel insecure with Mirena. Believe me, I am not trying to detour anyone from getting it. I am just sharing what I have been going through. Caliente: Did you get that rx from your OB GYN? If so then that might be a route I discuss when I go in June!
Thanks for your response! :)

I have the Mirena also, and recently realized that maybe it was causing my PMS to be worse. In an effort to treat the PMS, I started on bcps...Loestrin. I've been on it for one week and I have never been so depressed in my life. I'm def. stopping and will find another alternative.

take it out! I have thought about it alot over this weekend, and there pro's and con's to it, but I think that for me the pro's out weigh the con's. I have decided to get it taken out. (That is if they can find it!) The last time I went to the doctor, they could not find the strings. Then finally she did find them and everything was good. But her not finding the strings again has been on my mind constantly! I don't want to have surgery to get an IUD out of my body. It will be more expensive this way (having to pay for every month of Birth Control Pills) but that is what I am going to do. Besides my hubby says he will help me to remember to take the pills. I feel better about my decision and will feel better when the appt is over and done with!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I did get the Mirena taken out yesterday! I can not tell you how much of a relief it is not to have to worry about the strings getting stuck up there! I was put on Yaz for the time being to try and clear up my face some and for the mood changes. My OB-GYN thought that was the best thing for me right now. I have taken 2 pills (am a Sunday start and already had my (you know what!)) and I can say that last night I was nauseated. Other than that, I have been fine. I would just like to have a clear face. I know that there are pro's and con's to everything. I am just keeping an open mind and will let you know how it goes. Also my (you know what) was very light, probally due to Mirena. I don't know how my 1st one on Yaz will be!

Keep us posted. I'd be interested to see how the long term effects will turn out...if your depression/moodiness will disappear!

I have been on Yaz for 4 days now. I can tell you that it makes my stomach queasy so I take it after I eat dinner. Today, I have a headache, but that could be from my period, or waiting too long to eat....just ate a huge lunch. I feel fine now. I know that I am still letting my body adapt to the new BCP and that is fine with me. I am not having any forgetfullness on taking the pills. I can tell you that my face has cleared up ALOT. Not to say that is from the BCP, but I have also been using Mary Kay Oil Control Lotion for about 2 weeks! I am alittle heavier today then the past couple of days, but even that is not bad. I have had less depression lately, just more of a carefree attitude. Again not saying that the BCP's are it, but it is still nice. It may be a different story at the end of the month. I am just letting anyone who wants to know what happens every couple of days. About the weight thing....I tend to not get on the scale cause that is depressing to me. There has been no change there, but I don't know if the BCP is suppose to change that. If there is a change, I'll let you know!
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi,
I'm just wondering did it hurt having it taken out and how long did it take to have removed? I have the pargard iud and i'm very happy with it, but just curious on how it will be when it has to be removed. Thanks

What they do is grab the IUD strings with some long tweezer looking things and yank. It did not hurt that much. Probally not at all. My stomach always hurts when I have a pap done or anything down there. As for feeling it come out, I could not!
I hope that helps you! If you need anything, just let me know!

:D I am still on Yaz. I will start my 2nd week tonight. Over the weekend I noticed that my period was more forthcoming. More bleeding, but not too bad still. I did try to take the pill without eating, and boy did I pay. I got so nausated. I hated that feeling. I will definately take it when I eat. My weight is going back down now and I am on my 1st day with no bleeding. I am just keeping anyone who wants to know updated, so they would know my genuine response to Yaz. You hear the good and the bad about everything and I have mostly good to say so far. Talk to me at the end of this month and that might change, but so far...it has not been all that bad! I hope other Yaz users are doing okay with it too.
Have a great day! :D

Good Morning All!
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been doing an experiment with Yaz. I have been taking sleep aids to help me sleep at night, but it seems that with Yaz, I don't need to. Has anyone else experienced this? I take it in the evening with dinner and at about 9:30-10PM or so, I am ready to sleep. Now, I did have to get up with my son (who is teething) and I could not go back to sleep right away. That is normal for me. But I can tell you that I feel more alert today without taking the sleep aid. Just seem to be in a better mood all around. :)
Have a great day!

Hello All!
Out of all of the uplifting things I have said about Yaz, now I have some not so uplifting ones! I can tell you that I am on my 3rd week (just started my 3rd week) and I have more pimples than I have had in a while. And these are not little ones either....I am talking BIG BIG under the skin, hurting to touch them pimples! My dad said to me one time it looks like you could connect the dots on my face. :nono: I think this is the same thing! Just bigger dots. Also I wanted to know if anyone had any problems with their legs while on Yaz?? It is like restless leg or something. I would put them straight and curve them and they were not happy, no way!! :bouncing:
What is up with that!
Have a great day!

I just took the last pill of my 1st pack of Yaz last night. I have noticed that my stomach has been hurting more at night and even in the morning. Not to say that Yaz is involved, but you never know. I still have some break outs, but not too many. I am also using some products from Mary Kay to help with oil. Hopefully the Mary Kay and the BCP will work together to get my face clear. I am kind of worried on how much time I might bleed with my 1st period. I have been reading all of the horrors that some of you are going through and I am sad for you. I am going to start the 1st of the white pills tonight and we shall see how it goes. I definately will be updating on what happens!
Good luck to all on Yaz!~ We may or may not need it!

I just wanted to give an update on me. I starting bleeding last night about 11:00PM or so. It is not heavy at all yet. I have no cramps at this time. I have been tired lately, but I felt the same way on Yaz. I will post more on Monday with my 1st full day of it being today.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hello All!
I just wanted to let you know how my 1st full day of a period went. The bleeding is light, which is good. I did have some cramps, but they were not that bad. I didn't have to take any medicine for them. I did get a migraine though. I had to take medicine for that which helped the cramps some. I wasn't that hungry yesterday and still not that hungry today. The cramps are gone and the bleeding is still here. I am on my 2nd pack of Yaz, taking the 1st pill last night. When the bleeding stops, I will let you know!
Have a great 4th!!

I wanted to wait a couple of days to update. I am into my 4th day of pills (tonight) and I think that my period could be gone. I am down to a pantyliner. I am not as sleepy during the day as I was the 1st month of Yaz. I don't think that it is upsetting my stomach like it did last month. I have been experimenting with it, taking it a couple of hours after dinner, just to see if I still have that side effect.:blob_fire Over all I have to say that this has been a good month and a good period. I feel sorry for those of you who are not having the kind of effects I am. I have not lost any weight, I have actually gained 5lbs. Which is okay with me. My face has some spots of acne on it, but I just got off my period. :)
I just wanted to give you all an update!!
Have a great week!

Hello All:
I just wanted to give a new update. I am into my 2nd week of the 2nd pack of Yaz. I can tell you pro's: I do not get queasy anymore with it, which is great; no pregnancy!; I do have more energy (my spike is in the evenings!); normal bleeding! (BIG PLUS!). I am sure there is more, but I can't think of any! Con's: I still have acne (not bad, but still there); I had to start taking my sleep aid again, but only take 1/2 the dose; I have not lost any weight, but have not gained any more weight; My hubby says I am still moody, but I don't think so. Maybe I am just moody to him. LOL!
