I had a series of blood tests done, cholesterol, liver function, kidney function, glucose, and fbc they all came back normal, but the GP is concerned because i have had a high ESR level showing in my blood. When i had the blodds done i was feeling really low and virusy, i had two cold sores on my lip and just felt generally yuk, this week the cold sores have gone and i feel better altho a little tired, im seeing the doc soon, what could this be, im reading abt cancers with high esr's and panicking any suggestions anyone please>??

ESR is an indicator of inflammation somewhere in the body. It could have been caused by the cold sores ( I think ) or gastritis or arthritis or any number of things.

Don't panic and stop reading stuff! Sometimes we freak ourselves out with what we read on the internet. Don't worry until after you consult your GP again and he gives you a reason to worry (which he may not)

Hopefully someone else with some more information on ESR levels will chime in.

I have rheumatoid arthritis which causes my joint to be inflamed and my sed rate is around 55. High sed rate could mean that you have an infection of some kind. My aunt had an infection and her sed rate was alot higher then mine. May be you got some kind of cold or flu and that is why you are tired.

I know how you feel. My father had cancer but he is fine now. So, if any thing comes up the first thing that comes to my mind is cancer. Try and relax a high sed rate can be caused by many things.

thanks Annette

Last week i felt like i had flu and got two horrible cold sores on my lip it was at this time that i had my bloods done, im hoping it is just that but 156 is high.

ive had just abt everything scanned lately, heart, bladder, and stomach, nothing anywhere there, so im going thru my body now wondering where the inflamation is !!

the mind plays horrid tricks on u when ur stressed and fearing the worst. :(

Hello,

Just to let anyone whos interested know.....

I repeated by bloods and the count came back at 3 !!!! YES 3 !!!!

After a count of 156 last week, im thinking something has gone amiss somewhere, GP said all was perfectly normal, so i am about to fire off a letter to the head of heamotology at the hospital where they did the test, i want to know how they could have fouled up so badly, causing me some serious worrying and sleepless nights over last 48hours. i think THAT is wrong, any comments anyone?

Main thing is i havent go tcancer, i havent got rhumatoid artheritis, im ok :bouncing:
