Are there any cures or home remedies for hemorrhoids? I got a big one right now and i'm trying to shrink it or do something to it. I'm currently in high school (a senior) and I have no insurance, so basically I have no money for surgery.

Please help me, THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Start eating More fiber in your diet--- Like Metamucil 3 times daily.
This will cause a softer stool -- but you may need to see a Doctor -- like it or not!!

Years ago I had the same problem, here's what my doctor had me do . Drink Metamucil or a similar fiber drink every morning and continue to drink lots of water throughout the day. Insert a suppository ( I recommend Anusol) meant to calm and shrink the hemorrhoid everyday. It took about a week before I noticed complete resolve of the hemorrhoid and it has never reoccurred. It's been at least 15 years and I have not had to continue this program. I now make sure to eat high fiber foods and drink lots of water and that seems to be enough.

In addition to what others have said, try to not strain at the toilet. Just take your time without rushing. That is a proven cure for a lot of people...maybe not for everyone...but for a lot of people. We strain because we want to be regular and we are in a hurry...just relax a little bit more for a little longer. It takes some time to learn how to do this and break old habits, but it can work. It's one of the best natural remedies that I know of. A little amount of aloe vera can help too.

That's a good suggestion. You can also buy over the counter stool softener( colace or docusate sodium) that work to soften the stool and therefore prevent straining.

Harry, Relax. Hemorrhoids happen to many people. They resolve easily after some time, usually 2-3 weeks. In exceptional cases (we read about them in these postings), they cause major problems though. High fiber diet (fruits and vegetables) and no straining (as in lifting weights) are best.

Butcher's Broom is a great herbal remedy for shrinking hems and it is a good gentle fibre that softens stool too. It works by shrinking the enlarged veins in the hems. (Don't take butchers broom if you have high blood pressure). Butcher's Broom worked great for me. Noticable shrinking in a few days and pain free. I took the caps for a month. Naturopaths prescribe it for hems and also varicose veins.
