I have been having some symptoms that has me thinking about hypoglycemia and was hoping to get some feedback from you.
Basically my symptoms are:
dizziness and lightheadness all the time
brain fog, spaced out feeling, disconnected feeling, hard to get my thoughts out
shakey or jittery feeling
muscle aches in thighs and legs sometimes
feeling anxious or weak
Generally tired/fatigue
Night sweats occasionally
sugar cravings
blurred vision sometimes
I do seem to feel a little better right after eat
The thing is many of these symptoms are ALL the time. It's not like I feel fine, miss a meal then I get the symptoms. I have a VERY limited knowledge of all of this and am learning as I go.
Can you have hypo all the time?
I also have neck, back and jaw pain that I am investigating too.
The worst symptom is the jittey shaky feeling. Another thing is that when I am haveing a jittery, shakey feeling I am not always hungry.
I am very confused and am having a hard time weeding through all the information.
I just to feel "normal" again.
Thanks for your help.

Have you ever been diagnosed with diabetes? Are you on any medication? If you are on medication, perhaps it needs to be adjusted. Please give us more information.

That does sound like hypoglycemia (which is not diabetes but rather the opposite) but having it all the time puzzles me also. If it goes away after eating would also be an indicator but like I said..all the time makes me wonder if it is the culprit. I have those symptoms with my hypothyroidism also.

I did have a thyroid test that was normal. I also have Crohns disease and am SLIGHTLY anemic. The GI said that my anemia is not symptomatic. I am taking iron supps.
The only meds I take are Flonase, Pentasta (for Crohns), Vit B, C and E. But my symptoms have been like this for 6 months.
The thing about the shakiness is that it feels like something has been released into my body, I then get irratible and uncomfortable, then it usually goes away.
If the shakiness is really bad it takes longer to go away. I am almost NEVER hungry when I feel this way and it is AFTER I eat (within 2 hours or so).
The dizziness/lightheadedness is always there, but not the shakes.
Is there away to tell if I am hypo without having to go get the glucose test done? I would think that I would feel worse in the morining after not eating, but that is not the case. I feel OK when I wake up.
Thanks for all your help.

You would not necessarily feel bad when you first get up in the morning. When my son was younger, he was hypogycemic so I have some experience with it. Hypogycemics need to eat many small meals a day and not skip meals. When the body has not eaten for a while and then loads up on carbohydrates the pancreas responds by releasing insulin. In a hypogycemic, if the person has allowed themself to go without food for a while, the pancreas turns on the insulin and goes into overdrive. It just produces too much insulin. Too many carbs at once will confuse the pancreas and and it will overproduce the insulin. For example, in my son's case, he would eat cereal for breakfast and then eat lunch 6 hours later at school. About a half an hour after lunch he would pass out. That is why I took him to the doctor. The doctor explained that small meals and snacks all day would allow the pancreas to work slowly all day, and then it would not get overloaded all at once and go out of whack. That is why many hypogycemics actually have their trouble after they eat not before. The large meals after a period of no food in the system causes the darn pancreas to kickstart itself and not shut off soon enough. The only way to know for sure if this is your problem is to see a doctor. It is very important that you find the answer because left untreated it can damage your system and cause your pancreas to eventually no longer be able to release enough insulin, then you will be diabetic. My son's doctor told me that a hypoglycemic that does not take care of themself is at a very high risk of developing diabetes. Also, you risk passing out while driving, etc. Eating foods with lots of sugar, drinking regular pop and eating very large meals when you have not eaten for more than 2-3 hours is particularly harmful. Please go to the doctor.
