View Full Version : First time poster - ALLERGIES or SINUSES...both?

Without getting too graphic here, I wake up every morning and my nose is stopped up - when I blow it, it looks like a scene from a horror movie. Dried blood clots, fresh blood, dried green stuff, gooey green stuff - yeah, so much for the non-graphics, sorry, LOL.

My doctor has had me on ever kind of allergy or sinus medicine that she can think of, nothing seems to help. I have a headache alomost daily, face always feels contricted under my eyes. I try to stay away from anything sweet or strong smelling because it triggers a headache - hubby and i both have to stick to the same deoderant because I can't take the smells of some.

QUESTION IS: Does anyone else go through this? If so, do you have any tricks that help? I've been using a saline nose spray lately, doesn't help with the messies in the morning, but after I blow my nose, it eases the dry feeling.

Have also tried Tylenol Sinus, Advil Sinus, Sudefed, Mucinex, Claritin D, Benedryl, humidifiers, 3 different kind to be exact - not helping....

ANYONE?

Have you tried a true antihistamine besides benedryl? Like Allegra or Zyrtec WITHOUT the -D? You may not need the decongestant. And if I take one when I only need the antihistamine, I get massive headaches as it's trying to decongest something that doesn;t need decongesting. Does that make sense? Since you seem to be having the problem in the AM, try taking a benedryl at bedtime.

I have the same problems and both my allergist and ENT have me taking only a decongestant with guaifenesin. An antihistamine is what makes you stuffy. You may try Alkalol to wash your sinuses out with. It works better that plain saline.

Hi, you might want to try self-acupressure for relief from sinus pain and nasal congestion. It's really helped me. You can either buy a book or look on the web for how to do it. It's so easy it's well worth a try.

Good luck

Vicky
