I'm new to this board, but I've read other places that you're supposed to have a bowel movement at least once per day. Well, this is where I figured I may have a bit of a problem. I don't have a bowel movement every week or everyday. I usually have a bowel movement once a month...and when I do, it's so extremely hard to actually pass the bowel...I sit there for maybe 20-30 minutes just trying to release whatever I can. It takes a day or two to actually clear my system. I know it's an issue, but I've never thought to actually take care of it until now. Are their any suggestions on what I could do about that, and what's normal when it comes to bowel movements?
Thanks so much!

One bowel movement per month? Oh my goodness! Do you eat "normal" meals? Or do you eat very little? From what I understand you should have a bowel movement everyday or every other day. Perhaps you need to drink more fluids and add more fiber to your diet? Maybe some metamucil?

Oh MY GOSH!!!!! I thought I would never ever hear of this I am just like this. I am 45 and have been like this my whole life. I was always embarreses to tell the DRS so I just did it all these years. Last week went to my GP and finally told him and he jsust was astonished He gave me Zelnorm. I took it for 3 days and stopped because it caused me to have like runny stools 20 times a day. I do real good until about the 31st day and then I start to hurt bloated and kinda sick then I will go sometimes i have to use laxatives tho. But lately after I wait about 21 days After I go I feel sick for about a day Just kinda like I have the flu or something so maybe I will go back on the zelnorm soon and give it a fair try. I have also had colonospy and said all was fine( they did it for stomache pain) And now I have noticed my 11 year old son is falling into my footsteps also he usually goes about every 10 days and we eat pretty balanced meals and drink alot of water IT IS A MYSTERY so if you get any answers please let me know too GOOD LUCK BEV Ps we know it int normal but what causes it????????

Wow...........if I went that long without a bowel movement, I think it would kill me!
I need to go everyday, or I start to feel panicky about it.
I drink Konsyl (fiber type drink) every day, and try to get in as much fiber from foods that I can. I throw prune juice in for good measure on some days.
And water.......lots of water.........

Well, I don't eat regularly so to speak. Some days I'll eat lunch, others I won't. I never have breakfast, and I have very little dinner. I'm not a very hungry person
I don't drink that much water either, but it's like I don't get the urge to have any!
I know it's supposed to clean out your system and rid it of toxins, but I just can't get up the guts to go to the doctor just yet. I should try metamucil. I have nothing to lose.
Anything else?!
