Ive been on Yasmin for at least 8 months now. For the past 2-3 months, my boobs have grown a lot, I THINK I might have gained weight (although if I have its probably due to my eating habits), Ive developed pretty bad acne out of nowhere, and just this past month Ive gotten crampy throughout the active pill weeks. Ive even had some depressed feelings and mood swings lately. I also had horrible cramps and bloating during my period last month, and I went on this pill to avoid that in the first place.

The first 6 or so months, however, were great. I loved this pill. And I heard that after 3 months (typically) your body is used to the pill and it has taken full effect. Why is it that it can start giving you unwanted side effects so late in taking it? Im stopping the pill today, will go on Spironolactone for my skin issue, and see if things improve...and Im considering Yaz next after a month or two... we'll see.
Im just wondering why the pill did this and if its really the pill thats the cause...Im just shocked this all hit me after so long.

Usually, it's said that if you have these side effects during the first couple of months on the pill, it's normal, and the side effects will often go away. However, it's not uncommon to experience side effects after several months of being on the pill. Some woman may have no problems for over a year, then start to find that they aren't comfortable with the side effects.

You said that everything pretty much started happening this month, so perhaps it wasn't the pill, but due to other external forces (stress, poor diet, etc). Usually, one bad month doesn't mean that the pill is necessarily the problem (though it could be).

In any case, it's isn't uncommon.

I was on Yasmin for three months, during which time I developed severe skin problems (boils/cysts), over-sensitivity and excess oil. I also started to experience severe mood swings, bouts of depression and PMS - all of which I'd not suffered with previously. I took Yasmin whilst it was still on trial here in the UK, before licensing. I reported all side effects to my doctor who took me off it immediately. Apparently, although claimed to help acne, many women had reported similar side effects. All symptoms I experienced whilst on Yasmin cleared up within 6 weeks of coming off it. That is more than a mere conicidence in my book.

See, what you described, Kathp, as far as acne goes, happened to me on the Nuva Ring within the first 3 months. but i went on yasmin after that thinking it would clear me up, and it did. I can understand skin going haywire in the first 3 months of a pill because your hormones are adjusting.
What I DONT understand is how I know have the worst acne of my life 8 months into a pill...you'd think if I was going to get a reaction like this, it would have happened within the first 3 months.
GLSheridan- ive tried to come up with something that could explain it otherwise, and other than a little stress and eating horribly, Ive got nothing...and Ive eaten horribly AND been stressed out much more in my life and my skin was fine...plus, I find it weird that the last 2-3 months of the pill, Ive had a HORRENDOUS breakout (nearly accutane qualified) and its happened the 3rd week of my pack, each time. It clears up in the first week of the next pack...thats why I think its the Yasmin. It just doesnt make sense to me.
