I am 18 years old and have DDD. I have had some trouble during the past year with low back pain (L5) and i have trouble sitting. I also had to quit playing all sports. (football, track, lacrosse)

The pain was bearable for a while (going on about a month), and on saturday the 20th I did some active things iwth my friends for the first time in a while. A very light game of touch football and some volleyball.

I didn't have any more than a usual amount of pain all day despite my activity. It only hurt if i tilted my pelvis forward and straightened out the curvature of my lower back. By about 1 30 AM I had to go bed before everyone else because it hurt to stand, walk, or sit. I got in bed and propped my feet up. no help, still pain.

Woke up this mornign with the same intense pain- sitting, standing, walking...all excedingly difficult. The pain is particularly strong when I tilt my pelvis forward. What does that mean?

Is this just from overdoing it on saturday? How long does it take for this pain to subside? I'm only 18 and I dont really have time to quit my life for this. I have job interview tomorrow and I'm hoping i'll be able to get up and get in my car tomorrow. If anyone knows what this pain means I would be greatly appreciative. thanks

Hi, Hoyt.

I'm really sorry to hear about your pain. It sounds like you strained your back, but you need to get to a doctor or the ER and let them do x-rays and an MRI if you can get one to see if you did any damage. They can prescribe the proper treatment for you when they see what the problem is.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hoyt, I'm sorry your hurting so much.
I believe if your hurting this much it is time to see a dr. hopefully they can do something for you now before it is let go to long and gets worse.
Your so young and putting your life on hold must seem like the end to you, that is why I say go now and hopefully it will be easily treated and not become somethig serious..

I have an appointment for tomorrow. I pretty much always have back pain so this fall during football season I got an Xray and an MRI. The xray showed nothing, the MRI showed slight degeneration in my L5.

Now that it's may, my dr. is concerned because slight degeneration apparently does not cause this much pain for this long of a time period. So within the last month i've gotten a CT scan, a Bone scan, and some bloodwork done. They think there might be something else. the pain wasn't nearly this bad before the weekend though, hopefully I can drive to my job interview today. Its not as bad as it was yesterday, but it still feelslike my muscles are really tight.

If i lean my head forward i can feel the pull down in my lower back. how can I loosen these up without killing my back? If i straighten out the arch of my lower back it really hurts.
