Hello everyone!!!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!! I have to be at the hospital at 7am and my surgery is scheduled for 9:15 am!

I know I've asked this a MILLION and ONE times but I have to ask again!

My BIGGEST fear is waking up in PURE PAIN! Those of you who had gallbladder surgery, did you wake up in pain? Was it an aching pain or "someone please help me" pain? Did they make you comfortable asap??

You all have helped calm my nerves SO much these past few weeks. I know I'm going to be so nervous waking up, not knowing where I am, how everything went, etc...that the last thing I want or need is serious pain.

Would anyone like to help calm my nerves in my last final hours!!

Thank you!!!

Teresa

I woke up in no pain, none at all. As soon as I started to feel even the slightest discomfort I said something and they gave me morphine. You'll be ok, I know it's scary but you'll do great!

Thank you so much!!!

Whe they moved you to a room, or a wheelchair, etc...did it hurt really bad? Does the pain hurt on the incisions or inside where the gallbladder was?? Any tips on moving around without so much pain?

I just feel the need to talk about it! I know that sounds silly and I probably shouldn't be thinking about it because it'll worry me too much but I can't stop! LOL My mind is racing!

I plan on making it VERY clear to the doctor that I would appreciate it if he'll make sure I'm filled up with pain meds when I wake up and MAYBE he'll listen to me! :) I don't care about being in pain afterwards but as soon as I wake up I don't think I'd be able to handle it because I'm too freaked out.

Thank you very much! I'll post as soon as I get home on Tuesday or as soon as I feel I am able to make it to the computer!

Thanks so much!

Teresa

I had no pain when I woke up in recovery. The ONLY pain I ever had was from moving around too much the day of surgery. Everybody I knew called me. I would be on the land line and the cell would ring. It was ridiculous. I'm glad my friends cared! However, if I was asleep when the phone rang then I jumped from the sound...and that hurt. I have a pretty high pain threshold so I doubt that I am a good gauge. Just be sure to take your meds as prescribed and don't move suddenly..go slow. You'll be fine. Let us know how you are doing.

Oh, and there was absolutely no pain where the GB was...that's how I knew it was a success. For the first time in 6 months, I didn't hurt there!

Thank you for responding!

So far it sounds like I'll be able to handle it. Tomorrow will be the true test!! :) I hope I feel as good as you did!

I'm off to pack my bag for the hospital tomorrow! Any suggestions on what to bring besides the basic things? I've never stayed overnight at a hospital before.

Thanks again!

I didn't stay.. was home in my bed a few hours later. But since I pretty much slept all that day, I would say you really don't need much. Maybe something to read if you can't sleep and get bored but that's about it. Let us know how it goes.

good luck to you. i also didnt stay only 4 hours from start to home and the nurse in recovery told me i was there way to long i didnt think so.
when i woke up in recovery i was in pain not from the incisions but from the gas in my back they gave me stuff right away in fact to much it made me dizzy then i could not get up in the 30 minutes like they expected so they gave me something for the dizziness i fell asleep woke up in hardly any pain walked to the rest room then to the wheelchair and home. for the hospital stay i would just bring somethin comfy to lay around in and my toothbrush and toothpaste and maybe something to read incase you get bored but most likely you will just sleep.
check in when you can let us know how you are
we will be thinking of you.

Hi Teresa, by the time you read this you will be home. The worst part for me was getting in and out of bed. Don't use your stomach muscles...roll to the side and use your arms to boost yourself up. It's been 10 days for me now, some pain still but not enough to warrant taking a pill. I am walking, shopping, living like before except no lifting or vacuuming, anything that stresses the abdomen. Please write when you can, I would love to know how it went. We were all in your shoes over the past 2 weeks or longer so can help you with our experiences. It's behind you now and I hope you feel good about it...the anticipation was one of the worst parts! Hope to hear from you soon but if you are too drugged to write, take your time. Hugs and feel well real soon!

Hello all!

I just wanted to let you all know I made it!!! I had surgery Monday morning at 915 and I got home about 130pm yesterday. I've been real dizzy getting up but other than that I've been great! Not too much pain just getting in and out of bed! Thank you all for your kind words and thinking about me! I'll write more later!

Hi Teresa, So glad to see you post! The getting in and out of bed was the hardest part but for me it got a lot better 5-7 days later. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks for me and that part doesn't hurt anymore...there is a slight soreness but I am not even aware of it unless I focus on it. I know you were afraid of post-op pain and the dizziness can be from the pills + the anesthesia, morphine, all they gave you there but if you have pain, take something. I got tired of being tired and dizzy so just took plain Tylenol after the 6th day. Well, it's all behind you now and I hope you agree that the waiting was the worst part..it was for me!
