History, no signs of bipolar growing up
*8 - 17 was diagnoised with add
*6 years old my brother who she was extremely close to died suddenly of a brain anyeriusm (sp?)
*She took it very hard
*2 mos later my second husband left. It wasn't that he left, it was how it did it. We came home and 1/3 of the house was empty with a note on a paperplate that said he was leaving to build a realationship with his children, like I had with mine. No family was more confused than mine over this. I had a 6 yr old 12 yr and 16 yr old. They were heart broken and confused.

*My dad died of cancer which came quick and he lost so much weight that my daughter could barely recognize him and was so sad watching the pain he went through for 4 mos.

*School started dropping. The depression was sitting in. Did take her to a specialist and he medicated her. She was bouncing off walls with it and (zoloft) she was only a size 0 to start and went down to 70 pounds. We finally had to take her for the sake of her health.

I'm not starting to see Bipolar. This evening when we walked in the front door she picked a fight and started screaming at me....about braces she wanted when she was 12 and kept yelling about it. She does this quite often and will get so angry and the yelling or telling me not say a word and antaginizing me.

It's been very difficult but no matter how, what I say...she refuses to go to a doctor. Any recommendations that worked for a loved one or yourself, please share. I will be forever greatful.

Hugs Annie :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:

wishn,

I'm sorry to see that you and your daughter are having such a difficult time. It sounds like you have both experienced so much loss. Any child would be traumatized by that.
As far as BPD, I am far from being able to help pinpoint your daughters true problems. I do know that SSRI's like Zoloft unmask mania in BPD's. So, often it will send them into an episode. But usually there are other identifiable periods of mania in the person's history as well.
Maybe you should look into delayed onset Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which I know can manifest symptoms very similar to BPD.
A history of ADD could possibly be misdiagnosed mania, which is also pretty common. Doctors don't like to dx kids as BPD because misdiagnosis can have ramifications in their future.
I hate that I sound like some expert. I want you to know where I'm coming from. I'm 39 and have always been BPD but was not diagnosed until three years ago. Even with my diagnosis, I wasn't aware of how serious it was until I had a complete breakdown.
Most of my time since then has been spent trying to understand and reconstruct my past from the perspective of BPD.
This sight has been so helpful in my quest to find myself amidst my illness.
I hope you can get to the bottom of what's going on with your daughter.
Good luck
