Ive just started taking lithium and understand weight gain is a possible side effect. Just wondered if anyone on it has gained weight or not and if so how much? i know it will vary between people but it seems to be a common side effect.
I know the main thing is that my bipolar is kept under control, but i struggle with my weight anyway and would be upset if i piled more on!
any info anyone could give me would be great :angel:

I was 30 when I was diagnosed and put on lithium - 5'3" 110 lb.
Now I'm 51, still on lithium - 5'3" 125 lb.
Weight due to age more than the lithium!

I took lithium for 8 years and did not gain weight. Make sure you drink plenty of water, watch the salt, and be diligent with exercising. Good Luck.

I've not gained any weight either, been on it four months, it actually kind of suppressed my eating and weight gain that I was enduring for depression .. lost a few pounds in the process and at my normal weight now and it's steady.

I've been on Lithium a little over a year and I was 132lbs. I'm now ~ 165 lbs. I am tall :dizzy: , everyone says that to try and make me feel better. My eating habits haven't changed but i am 31 now so my body seems to be changing anyway. Sometimes i attribute it to the lithium. I'm not as active as i should be but I also think i was unhealthy for a long time when i wasn't on Lithium.
Be patient with it. Either way our body's will respond well to excercise. We might have to work a little harder But hey, we can do it. We're tough
