My girlfriend won't believe me on this, but I think there is a problem. My gf skipped her last period by taking starting her pack right after the other. Well for some reason this last pack she got her period with 3 days left of active pills. She decided not to take the rest of the active pills. I was unaware of this, and we had unprotected sex, but still pulling out. Well her period ended 4 days early, but she didn't start her new pack till this last sunday. She said it is ok because she started her period and that she is still protected, but I don't think because she didn't take 3 pills that there is a problem. I am really concerned that she could be pregnant. She seems to think we are ok? Please help with advice.

If she took at least 3 consecutive weeks (or more) of active pills and then went no longer than 7 days without taking an active pill, there should be no increased risk. At least that would be true for a monophasic pill.

More than 7 pills between packs will have an increased risk. Use backup aka condoms until she takes 7 pills perfectly. Next month, no more than 7 placebo days between packs.

she went 9 days :-(That was a bad move on her part. As for how much added risk... no idea. When you say Sunday, do you mean yesterday or last week?

I've read that the most dangerous time to miss pills is right after the placebo week. Whether that is true or not I don't know.

My advise would be to use condoms for AT LEAST the next 7 days, assuming she takes them all, on time, everyday now. If she misses her next period, have her take a pregnancy test.

No one can tell you how much the chance is, just that she wasn't protected well against pregnancy during those extra days she didn't take them.
