Last week I wrote about going through an MRI for back pain that I've been having for a year-I hated the MRI-felt a panic attack coming on while going through it. Happily, everything was normal except for cysts on both ovaries. I have had these before and they have gone away on their own. My gyn wants to do another ultrasound next week to double check on them to see what's going on.
My question-can cysts cause bleeding? I am on day 19 of my cycle (which isn't normal anymore) and I got what I thought was a period. I only have had a small amount of blood, but prior to the bleeding I had what felt like cramps but only on one side. I wonder if it's just an early, light period, or if it's something related to cysts. I go to the gyn next week, but of course I'll sit and obsess over it for the next week.
Thanks!
Laurie

I think I have read where ovarian cysts can cause some spotting. Also, maybe you were just ovulating or trying to ovulate. Spotting at ovulation time can be fairly common. I know in peri, the is really no set time in your cycle that you ovulate. Can be before mid-cycle or after. Our estrogen is so screwed up that it's trying everything to kick out an egg. I think that is why so many peri women develope ovarian cysts. The ovaries are really working to get that egg out. I have cysts too, but I'm not going to worry so much about them anymore. It seems like alot of us are getting them, just another peri thing. Hope this helps. Ann

Thanks Ann. I'm not too worried about the cysts since I've had them before. In fact, I just was at the gyn in March for my annual, and she didn't feel anything. My guess is that if I hadn't had the MRI for my back, the cysts would have gone unnoticed. Oh well-see how one medical test leads to another!
