My son is going through the milk switch and we are having trouble with him throwing up the milk. It happens at least once a day. If he is having a meal and throws up, only the milk will come up. Its very odd. He was given the ok by the doctor to switch. He was on soy formula as a baby and when we went to whole milk he was fine. Could this just be a "stage" that he will out grow? Any advice would be great. Hubby changed jobs and we do not have insurance until July. Thanks.

When we switched from formula to whole milk we had constipation issues.

Could he like the taste of milk so much that he's guzzling it down and causing an airbubble that makes him vomit? DS is on a "strawberry" milk kick right now, and he likes it sooo much that he slams an entire sippy cup of it in one sitting if we don't watch him -- Sunday night -- spagettios and pink milk came up at the dinner table.

Hi Willowbug,

My advice to you would be to keep your child on whole milk until you can get him in to see a doctor about this, and/or to run some tests. Seeing as he was fine with drinking whole milk. Maybe he just doesn't like the taste of 2% or 1% milk? It does seem a little strange, because he was drinking whole milk fine. It could be a "stage"...but if he is only throwing up the milk, and nothing else that he eats, there may be a problem. Maybe all of a sudden he is lactose intolerant. Unknown until you can get him checked out....

Take care and good luck!

Thanks!

He does LOVE milk. Its all he will drink most days. He did have a lot of gas trouble when he was younger. We had thought it could be gas and as he doesn't burp often and that is why it could be coming up. He wakes some nights and I give him liquid gas meds and a few minutes later he burps and all is fine and back to sleep he goes.

My daughter who is now 10 had trouble with milk based formula and whole milk, but I wouldn't have thought it would "travel" to him. Our doc did say if one kids has trouble the other children have a higher chance of having trouble also. Which was true for us, he would not keep milk based formula down. But when he went to whole with no trouble I thought our troubles were over. As I would think the "heavier" whole milk would unsettle his tummy more than 1%.
