Why do you bleed on the off week?
With a normal period you bleed because an egg wasn't fertilized and your body doesn't need all the prep for a baby anymore. But with bc you don't ovulate...so why do you bleed? Is it kind of the same concept in that bc "tricks" your body into thinking it's pregnant and when you stop taking active pills it's kind of the same thing as your body "flushing out" what wasn't needed for the egg? Or am I'm totally just making that stuff up?! :p

Also..I'm on Desogen and so far I like it but I've read about people losing their sex drive on it. First...how common is that? Do other pills cause a decrease in sex drive? and probably most importantly...why does the pill decrease sex drive? I notice when I have no one around I have no sex drive but as soon as my boyfriend shows up I'm just as horny as he is...and I don't want to lose that! ;)

Just some questions. Thanks!

The hormones in the pill build up your uterine lining a little. When you start the placebo pills, your hormone levels drop off which triggers your uterine lining to shed. Decrease in sex drive is a common side effect because the pill lowers your testosterone level.

desogen has a hormone (desogestrel) that has a higher androgen content than other pills, so you probably have only a *small* risk of losing your libido from it (but hey, everyone reacts differently). I totally lost my libido while on ortho tricyclen lo, and my dr put me on mircette (which also has desogestrel, but is monophasic), and my sex drive came back. so you'll probably be ok in that department.
