My problem is that I dont know the best procedure I should go threw to get coverage. I am 15 years old, I had a broken nose when I was 10 years old and my nose has grown crooked.Like 1 year after the injury I have been getting many sinus headaches, stuffy nose, and mucous constantly in my throat. Before my injury I never had those symptoms. I have recently visited a ENT doctor who didn't seem very helpful. He just looked at me for a few minutes and said I just have allergies. He said I did have a deviated septum but it isn't that severe. I had to ask him to do a CT Scan for me. From all my reading on this healthboard I was lead to the conclusion that I do suffer from allergies but I believe my crooked nose is causing my symptoms to become more annoying. What can I do to convince this ENT doctor to recommend me for septoplasty and if he does will insurance actually cover it?. How can I talk my ENT doctor into this because I do not want to take no nasal spray or allergy pills all the time. My insurance is blue shield of california. Please help me... You could consider getting a second opinion from another ENT. If your current ENT doesn't think that your condition is severe enough to warrant surgery, probably no amount of pursuasion is going to change is mind. Also, most insurances will cover septoplasty if it's medically necessary, which means that must have a surgeon agree that you truly need it (not just because you think that you need it). I had a septoplasty (as well as some other procedures) done 2 years ago, and it was very helpful. However, if you have allergies, the procedure isn't going to suddenly cure you. I still use antihistimines (allergy meds) and nasal sprays almost every day. It's part of the total treatment of allergies. |
