seem to get sicker than the average person and take longer to recover? I have a virus that I'm on day 5. I've missed 3 days of work and am exhausted. My step son had the same thing and was sick like 4 days. I'm wondering why I'm sicker?

Ask your doctor about this but mine has instructed me as soon as I feel a cold or other respiratory infection/problem coming on to double my daily Flovent dose...and continue until the symptoms subside. I rarely have these types of issues but when I have, I have done as instructed and it made all the difference in the world. Check with your physician.

Adrenaline (http://www.************.ca/s325-s-ADRENALINE.aspx)
Adrenaline belongs to the category of drugs characterized as adrenergic bronchodilators. Adrenergic bronchodilators are medicines used as inhalations to open up the bronchial tube passage.
Do you think this medication will be useful for asthmatic people?

As long as I upped my meds, no.
As soon as I BEGIN to feel sick - I immediately treat it as an asthma attack and it seems to shorten the longevity of time in being overall sick.
Always remember you have asthma and take care of it on a daily basis so if you do get sick it is not severe.
When my asthma was somewhat under control – I began a good asthma/lung supplement protacol and it has been two years since my last asthma attack and being really sick.

AFH,
Can you describe what your asthma/lung supplement protocol is? Thanks
Hi Howitt,
I worked closely with a wonderful Herbalist. She put together a 'personal' supplement not only for my asthma but also for my lungs because I have damage from several bouts of Pneumonia.
It was a combination on specialized herbs such as Prickly Ash Bark, Stillingia Root, Casara, Buckthorn and others. She would switch between about 30 different herbs because some I could not tolerate. She then put the combination in one capsule so I could take it as I would vitamins. I took them for about a year at very high doses (but remember I was under her watch). Slowly I was weaned to lower doses then completely eliminated them.
Today I take my own combination of good quailty supplements and as I said before ......... it has been a long time since I was real sick with a cold or an asthma attack.
Be Well!

That is amazing! I have asthma and also some damage from chronic inflammation. I also have allergies and am considering calling a doctor that was recommended to me by a local health food store. I wonder how I could find a good herbalist in my area?

Hi Daised & Confused,
Does anyone else with asthma seem to get sicker than the average person
& take longer to recover?
Yes I feel thats the case with me.
I think its because the immune system doesn't work as good as it should.
Which in my case manifests as problems like allergies, not rebounding from a cold as quickly, etc.
I have a virus that I'm on day 5.
Its now day 8 for me with my cold.
I got a cold/virus on Thurs. 5/18.
Its 5/26 and I am just starting to feel better
Feeling exausted, mucus congestion in lungs & sinuses, have to keep clearing my throat, & breathing problems.
It wiped all the energy out of me.
Just wanted to go home and collapse
1.Major sore throat & fever (3/4 days)
2. Then moved into my head & sinuses (congestion/headache/achiness/)
then into my lungs.
3. Then a cold sore
Treated it with Mucinef for mucus, congestion, teas, mega doses of vit c,
echinacea, Advair for lungs, Acyclovir for cold sore on lip (works great stopped it from going full blown)
Would have tryed "Airborne" for my cold but I ran out.
I've missed 3 days of work and am exhausted.
I missed one. But I could of easily used 4.
I stuck it out and tortured myself as I wouldn't have gotten paid
& I needed the money.
Fortunately its not a physical job.
I'm wondering why I'm sicker?
[B]Perhaps most people with asthma have a messed up/weak immune systems/Sickly?
What do you think is the cause of you being sicker than the normal person?
Do you think its because of?
Aging
Need for more sleep
Immune system not that great
Genetics
Bad Nutrition
Condition/Ailment affecting your sleep/immune system
I know when I compare myself to my friends, relatives, etc.
I seem to come across more sickly (Allergies manifesting as Asthma,Dermatisis,Hives,Digestion Problems) than them.
I guess we all have our ailments.
Our genetics & the triggers that turn them on
seem to determine what ailments each person will get as we age.

I do usually stay sick longer than others if I get a cold or something, & it's because being sick always flares up my asthma, making me even sicker. I am now more careful to monitor myself at the first sign of a cold or flu, & call my dr right away if my asthma starts to cause me trouble. I usually end up on prednisone, but have found that the quicker I start on it, the sooner I get better.
