Get these periods of lethargy especially in afternoon. Also bouts of being thirsty(sometimes hard to quench thirst)wooziness/swimming in and out feeling(sorry about non scientific explanation).
Used to think this was due to being on lithium but have been on tegretol for over 6 months now.
Am i daft thinking this could be a blood sugar problem?
I live in uk is there any way i can test blood sugar without needing prescription from doctor.
I am scared to ask gp in case he thinks i am being a hypochondriac(tends to do the 'it's all to do with you being mentally ill' speech when i mention physical symptoms)

Everyone over 40 should be tested annually for diabetes regardless of symptoms. If you want to determine if you symptoms suggest diabetes take the screening test at the link below. I filled this out based on my symptoms before diagnosis and scored 65.

Call around to the drug stores (pharmacies). At least in Canada in larger cities they often have diabetes screening clinics where you walk up and do a blood test. Or find someone who has diabetes and a home meter.

HI
I am diabetic. Also I have been on Tegritol. I was having your exact description of reactions too. The Tegritol will cause theses effects. If you are not taking Tegritol for Seizures, ask if there can be another medication to control what you have been taking it for. I wqs so dizzy I could not stand without having to hold onto something. Also If you have a doctor you cannot talk to about health concerns, You need another doctor. I would not hesitate to tell hem what is going on.
