hey all new to this site... i was wondering if any of you have type 2 diabetes and got pregnant? i have 2 boys and with both of them they used insulin as my control for my bs... well now that i'm on preg. #4 (had a m/c in may) i'm 6 weeks now and they started me on glucophage... so far everything is going pretty good, but my sugars are still a little high... they have me on 2,500mg of glucophage... i was also wondering about diet soda... everyone that i talked with said that it's bad for the baby but i'm diabetic and can't drink reg. soda... any info would be great... thanks so much...

glucophage/metformin has been used in australia for many years, I take it, it can make you feel full as iut delays digestion
dont know about diet soda, the sweetening agents go in and out of favor

I have seen no reports saying there is any problem with diet pop while pregnant.

I am not a type 2 but I did go through 3 pregnancies as a type 1. I would just resolve yourself to the fact that you will probably go on insulin soon. I used to moderate a pregnant and diabetic group and most of the women with type 2 didnt stay of medications long. If your blood sugars are high, you might even want to pull for the switch now. That way you know you can have tight control throughout the pregnancy.

As for diet soda... It's all I drank. I was told by the Dr not to overdo it because of the amount of caffeine. Caffeine makes you retain water and that can be miserable at the end of a pregnancy. Other than that, I got the ok to drink it each time. Good luck and C*O*N*G*R*A*T*U*L*A*T*I*O*N*S!!!
