I am spotting and am in the process of having a hysteroscopy to see what is going on inside of me. I did an ultrasound and everyting looks great except I have a tiny fibroid but my MD doesn't think that could be causing the bleeding. I've read up on spotting and I think it could be just my hormones changing. I'm 40 and I'm in peri. Again my MD thinks I am too young for this hormone flux. But everything I've been reading says it's possible. So...I'm asking you'all what you think.....
Did anyone here have spotting in their early to mid 40's with no known medical cause?
What is your story?
Thanks!

I've been in peri for about 3 years now (45 years young) and on bcp for two of them. I take the pills every day so am not supposed to have any bleeding. I too, however have been spotting for the past couple of months. I also have a tiny fibroid. My doctor doesn't seem concerned although did say if I think the fibroid is growing I need to go back in (so how do I know????). I've come to realize that pretty much everything that is physically annoying, painful or aggrevating is related to peri-meno. I usually see the doc when the problems seem to go on for a tremendously long time or if I just can't take it anymore.

Yes me too. I am 47 and 6 months ago I had a 2 week stretch of spotting. MD did a pelvic sonogram said everything looked fine and the uterus lining was thin which is good. He said probably hormones. All quiet till a couple weeks ago when I got it again for like 5 days and now no period since April 21. MD gave me 10 days of Provera and said I should get a period after that. If I spot again, he says endometrial biopsy time. But he seemd to think it was perimenopause.

Hi,
I am 52 and first started to have spotting in my mid 40's. I sometimes would get my period and then at day 18 after it have a bit of spotting. Other times I'd get my period and then a week later have some. Then it seemed to wane and I didn't have that muct anymore till a couple years ago a few cycles. It was all perimenopause my gyn told me. This year and last is the first time I have skipped a period, longest stretch has been over 3 months (haven't had one since Feb).
From what I have read on this board and what my gyn told me spotting is common in peri. But I know when it happened a few times for me I was very anxious about it of course as it was so different for me to have that.
Take care,
rmc

Thank ladies....you posts make me feel more and more secure in the fact that it's hormonal. All these weird things have been happening to me within the last 2 years and there is no known cause to date....other than them all being hormonal. I just need to add spotting to the list I guess.
But of course I'm going through with the procedure just to make sure.
Have a great day!

Hi there. I am 40 and I too have have a little bit of spotting for the last three cycles and along with this I am having all the other classic peri symptoms - fatigue, really bad mind fog, tender breasts, aching joints - I could go on........ I went to see my doctor and she said it is most probably hormonal changes due to approaching menopause and most probable as my mum completely stopped her periods at 39 and her twin sister. It is very very common in peri.
Its best to let the doctor be aware as I have done and go back if you are worried but I have read lots of womens accounts of this both on this site and on powersurge and it does seem to be very common
best wishes
