I am really new to this whole thing. I just found out that I am diabetic and now I have to change my whole life style. My boyfriend is trying his best to help but he has no idea about what I can and cannot eat. His idea of dinner is a cupcake with extra icing. If anyone has any advice for a new diabetic like what is the best tasting fake sugar and other things like that I would greatly appreciate it. This is going to be a big change and I was also wondering how everyone else made the changes and how hard it was especially if you have kids.

Hello
The best tasting fake sugar that will not kill you, at least not at this time, is Splenda. It come in yellow packaging. It is so identical to sugar with no after taste that it could probably fake anyone out. It has no calories. This is the only one I trust. You will have to eat differently. But the cupcake thing sounds real bad. Cupcakes are NOT food. This is not good for anyone. You can have a great variety of foods with a lot of flavor and stay on a "good Diet" I understand totally where you might wish to have what is considered normal food. But this is simply bad for anyone.
What is the medicine you take for control? How much and how are your sugar tests through out the day. And what are you used to eating. This will help with some better suggestions. Thanks for the extra input.

Splenda is the only thing I use also. Here is an excellent website that might help you with your food choices. http://www.diabetic-diet-and-recipes.com/index.php3
Good luck
