I was just diagnosed with Cyclothymic disorder, and prescribed Lexapro. I started taking it 3 days ago, and it's not pretty. I felt awful the first day, my arms and legs felt heavy and I felt sort of drunk-like. I had a headache for the last 2 days. Now I still feel tired, and my head feels heavy. Do you get used to the medication? By the way, it has been helping me sleep better, so I have been taking it before bedtime.
Should I worry about extra weight gain? I have noticed I don't crave all the junk food I used to. I used to have chips and dip for breakfast.
Feeling really wierd.
I see the doctor again next week.

I'm on Lexapro, along with Adderall, Zoloft, and Restoril. I had a weight gain but I was taking Lexapro and Seroquel so I'm not sure which caused it or if it was a combination of both. I do remember the headaches, but they went away after the first few days. Sometimes it still makes me tired, or sometimes it makes me wired. Go figure. lol
Stay with it if you can and give it a chance to work. If the side effects are too much for you though, I'd give your Dr. a call.
Good luck to you! :)

Thanks. Yes, I just started them, and I have never been on medication before, so I guess it takes time to adjust. I did not get too much information fro the doctor, and I don't see him until next week.
I was very shaly the first night, and I was at work, it was so hard to keep going. I am doing better now, but it makes me uneasy to not know what to expect.

First off, I PRAISE Lexapro! secondly, I didn't have any side effects from it. and moreover, i have social phobia and bipolar, and lexapro allowed me to converse freely, leave the house, and become a normal, chatty woman; this is because lexapro helps with anxiety, as well as depression. i recommend it to everyone i know that asks me for med advice, and it has done wonders for all of them.
your side effects will disappear, (though i know everyone is different, but it does have minute side effects on most ppl). good luck to you! and good luck to anyone else out there that is thinking of trying Lexapro, or has just been put on it--it can save you! :)

Thanks, you are giving me hope! I am still really sleepy, but for a few hours I am O.K. Then I am just wanting to be done at work so I can go back to bed.
During my doctor's visit 2 days ago, he asked if I wanted to switch medications. I told him I wanted to give it a chance, it's only been one week. I will be seeing the doctor next week again. I want to see if I just need to get used to the medication. How long did it take to start working? I know everyone is differnt, just wanted to have an idea. I figured I'd give it 3 weeks.
I have never been on any kind of medication before.

Hi I was on Lexapro for 4 months. I am clinically depressed and was suicidal. If it wasn’t for Lexapro I am certain I wouldn’t be here right now. I experienced the same effects you have and was tired and yawning for about the first 2 weeks I was on it. But worse was when I discontinued it. I had to because I was losing my hair because of it. A side effect that affects a small number of those who take it. I would find gobs of hair down the shower drain. I weaned off it slowly but experienced severe dizziness for about 2 weeks. Some days I was so bad I couldn’t drive. It was scary. I have been off it now for 5 months and I am doing well.
