Agood friend of mine is addicted to soma.It started out with a tumor in her back which lead to surgery which in return lead to painkillers and soma.It has been 3 years since her surgery and yes i know her back still hurts but come on she will take like 8 a day mixed with a little xanax and painkiller,To me it is ridicoulous to take that.Im worried about her but at the same time Im at the end of my rope.Any suggestions?

hi serinity; soma is a remake of 'miltown'. the first tranquiliser ever put out in the fifties. xanax is a benzodiazepene. both of these drugs are extremely addictive, and are hard to get off of. if a person quits cold turkey from tranquilizers or benzodiazapenes, they can have seizures, heart attacks, go into comas, etc. these have to be tapered. she could cold turkey the pain killers, and it would be a walk in the park compared to the other two. actually, xanax plus soma is a very bad combination-mixed with painkillers, she could od. you can't make her quit. she is going to do what she wants to, all addicts do. you could do a web search on benzo addiction. you'll be shocked at what you will find. maybe if you show her some info on what others have gone through, it might wake her up. good luck. i hope she comes to her senses. she's basically playing russian roulette.
