Please help me if you can. I have such a screwed up digestive system. First I started taking antifungals because I had yeast overgrowth in the colon (from taking too many antibiotics) then I started taking acidolphilus. Since 98, my stomach and colon work like this: I eat chicken fish and veggies alot. When I eat like this, my stomach and intestines get real acidic causing gas/bloating/nausea. When I get acidic, I eat crackers, potatoes, etc...which help me tremendously but then I get constipated. Its a never ending frustration with this. My doctor did an endoscopy/colonoscopy and found nothing wrong. So he writes IBS on my chart. GEEZ....I dont know what else to try! I am taking vitamins and some supplements from the health store which help some. I also bought digestive enzymes which help some, but the turnaround from acidic, to alkaline, to constipation to loose bowels is frustrating. Someone please give me some insight! I am way too thin and because of this, I cant eat correctly, and now have osteoporosis, plus I am in perimenopause at the early age of 37. I am under the care of a gyn who got my hormones under control, but the IBS and digestive discomforts refuse to leave me alone!! thanks for any serious responses.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about all your problems.Gee--I think you need to be taking a water soluble bulk stool forming agent like psyllium husks. It is the active ingredient in Metamucil. It is safe to take daily and you can get psyllium capsules from most health food store if you prefer but just drink alot of water. The Metamucil container use to say Bowel Reguator several years ago but now it says natrual fiber laxative but it still works the same by adding water content to your stool. It is a good bowel regulator regardless if you have diarrhea or constipation.

I also suggest you eat yogurt w/acidophilus several times daily to help get the right kind of intestinal bacteria growing in your GI system. As you may know there is constant WARFEAR going on there between the good and bad bacteria http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

You may want to post your message on the IBS board---I think you would get more responses.
God Bless

potato59,

How did you know you had yeast overgrowth in the color from taking too many antibiotics? How often were you taking antibiotics? I've been on antibiotics a lot lately and was wondering if that was causing a flare-up of some of my digestive problems.

To KdoubleU,
I found out I had yeast in the colon when I went to a certified nutrionist, and also when I went to a DO (a doctor who had extensive study after his doctoral degree) They took stool samples and sent them to great smokies lab. It came back as yeast overgrowth in my colon. If you would like more info on that company that tests for yeast, email me at magaly2@netzero.net This great smokies lab is an excellent lab and very reputable....Anyway they gave me antifungals, and modified my diet....talk soon, and hope you feel better
