i have had light headedness off balance feeling for about 1 month now, i also have weak legs which is there 80% of the time. I am so scared my doc thinks my leg probs are nothing to do with my dizziness and that it could be inner ear! this isnt right and i am so frightened, my head feels strange and my body is weak today :(

Has your doctor sent you to an ear nose and throat doctor? If not, you should ask him to refer you. If you are really concerned ask for a cat scan. That would either show it or get rid of your fear by telling you there isn't one. I hate it when doctors don't send people who are scared for tests that could rule out really bad things and give you peace of mind.

Good luck.

Anything that makes you feel off balance has to do with your inner ear. You are trying to self diagnosis yourself and you need to know that you would have much different symptoms if you had a brain tumor. Your weakness could be that your have an infection and it is affecting your inner ear and balance. Getting yourself all worked up with fear can also make you feel weak.
Calm down and give yourself a chance to feel better by getting some extra rest and eat well. I am sure you will feel better soon.

Tallgirl, I have the same symptoms as you do and others along with it, and I haven't gotten any clear answers from doctors in years. I have a cyst in my brain which they say can not effect how I feel at all. I've been lightheaded and then feeling weak and tired for years now. I'm really sorry you feel this way though. I hope it is nothing serious and that you can find answers as to what is causing it. :)

May I ask where in the brain your cyst is? My friend who they told had a cyst turns out is a benign tumor on the brain stem. With most tumors headache and eye sight problems are most common double and blurred viosion as well are nausea and vomiting. HIs tumor is very rare and only showed on the MRI not the CAT scan. Maybe see a neurologist for both of you and get a definate answer. Don't fool arounnd with it.

Glad MadMaz is fine and no tumor; however, just a point of clarification - just because the major symptom is that someone feels off balance doesn't mean that is ALWAYS an inner ear issue. It most certainly can be a brain tumor. Or, it could be a tumor that originates in the internal auditory canal (i.e., yes to both inner ear and brain tumor). However unlikely it may be that someone who is "off balance" may have a brain tumor, it is something that neurologists do check out if other symptoms are present that correlate.

I don't have a tumor but I have something else that wasn't visible on ct, ask for an mri....also I had symptoms like yours, don't let the doc tell you its your ear w/o checking all tests first....

I don't seem to understand how people mange to get their referalls for test done so quickly ! I've got to have an MRI which i will have to wait 3 months for ! it's incredilble, i'm paying my NHS payments months but when it comes down to needing help i'm just a number like anyone else ... go private and opted out of NHS ?

People in the US don't have NHS...so you can make your own appointments, but then you hafta hope your insurance will pay for it, if you have insurance at all :)

There are positives and negatives to both systems, I guess

well i had a brain mri and its supposidly normal but it was eithout contrast./// anyway i know i dont have a brain tumor but i may have a spinal tumor or something else i dont know... they think i either have an autonomic system problem due to wierd blood pressure changes on standing and a speeding heart rate, or a endoctrine problem so i have to go for more tests including heart tests its sucks being sick
