View Full Version : Afraid to go outdoors. Testing UK

I am in the UK. Over the years I have had cause in the summer to use antihistamine as I get hay fever symptoms. Some years have been worse than others. I have reacted to a local anaesthetic a few years ago at the dentist and due to this I had some allergy testing done at a hospital. This only returned results of anaesthetic and perfume allergy (both slight). I have no idea what stuff they tested me for but it was quite a few things.

Last year I reacted badly to rape. I had to stay indoors as the anti histamines were only helping a little. This year is the same . I wanted to go out fishing today. I noticed it was windy and that the sun periodically shone but feeling brave I took an antihistamine and went . After only half an hour of being around bushes and trees etc my nose went numb, my nostrils dried up and got extremely hot. My lips buzzed , my sinuses started to hurt and my chest felt tight (no wheezing). I came home and now I am scared to go out again.

Testing by the local authority apparently is almost non existant. If I do get an appointment the waiting time will be months away and I will have to travel out of my area. Does anyone have any advice for me please? I feel I need testing for specifics...outdoor pollens, environment?, inside the house pet dander and dust. I have looked for a private allergist but there doesnt seem to be one in our area and I dont know if one can trust them.

Thanks for reading.

Are you speaking of the rape plant that Canola oil is made from? Do you use Canola cooking oil in the UK? Thanks.

If you can make an appointment with the allergist, but in the meantime, have your GP prescribe a prescription antihistimine and nosespray. They work much better than what you can buy at the store
