I have been in hell for about 2 months now. I started getting alot of heartburn and also weird feeling when I breath (almost like bloating is causing a problem or somthing. its hard to explain). Ive also had a temperature that is always hovering 99.5-99.9 in the evening. When I am healthy, i am ALWAYS at 98.6.
I have had an Upper GI, Lower Abdominal Ultrasound and an EEG (just in case) all being normal. The doc gave me prevacid, which killed the burn. One note, when the lady was doing the ultrasound, she mentioned there was alot of gas, cause she had a tough timeright below my sternum where the rib cage ends. I have also had blood work done, (thyroid, blood count, lyme check) all normal. No sign of infection.
To this day, I am still having a weird feeling when i breath, for example, i cant get a good yawn, or it feels as if i cant get a good deeeep breath. I also have feelings of pressure along the bottom edge of my rib cage, especially on the left side where my stomache is. I get some aches and small sharp pains there, and it even looks like the skin might be puffed out at bit. I have a feeling like I always want to burp, but i dont really, and sometimes this all feels worse after i eat. Alot of times when i burp, stuff comes back up too.
I know there is alot of garbage here, but does anyone make ANY sense of any of it?
Thanks all......

I know what you are feeling, especially the breathing part. I feel like that all the time. Like I have to keep trying to breath deeply to get a good breath, or yawn alot. I also get pains under my rib, chest and arm (usually left of course), I have had many EKG's so I know it is not my heart. I have been told I have GERD too. I am not on anything cause it comes and goes, but recently has been around alot.
I hope you see this and we can talk more.

I am about the same. Let me see he told you, you have Costeochondritis (spelling isn't right I am sure) but it is an inflammation of the chest wall cavity. It can resemble a heart attack. I have had that too.
I was told that GERD can cause the inflammation. My chest today is so sore and I feel like there are a ton of bricks on my chest. I also have Anxeity Attacks, which make the situation even worse.
Hope to talk with you again.

adam2000,
Most heartburn and excess gas can be relieved by cutting back on the carbohydrates that you are eating, especially grain products (wheat, corn, rice, etc.). I know this sounds counter intuitive, but it really works. I've been on a low carb diet for over 2 years and can't remember the last time I had heartburn or gas. If I remember correctly, this is discussed in some detail in the book "Protein Power". They say that most if not all people that adopt the low carb way of eating get similar results.

hi adam, Tammy is possibly right I had the same feeling . and I have suffered with costacondritis ( I know my spelling isn't right) it is an inflammtion of the rib joints.when you breath the lungs expand and touch the ribs, thus causing pain and a sensation of not being able to take a full deep breath. My temperture is up and down as well and I know exactly when I am about to have an attack. When you eat it causes the same problem, The food goes down, thus expanding and causing the sensation. I suffer with reflux as well. I am under a renal specialist as I have lupus with kidney damage and the only way to treat this is very strong pain killers. I once had steroid injections in every one of my ribs, it was very painful, but it worked for a few months, then came back. I wouldn't have it done again because of the pain, if you want to know anymore let me know..good luck

I have had problems with my digestive tract for as long as I can remember and I was finally placed on aciphex. The heartburn is gone but other symptoms are bothering me more. Does anyone have any side affects from aciphex at all? I am just trying to get some info on it and see if it would be better to use another medication? Thank you for your help.

This costochondritis... something , inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum , I don't believe I have it . Other symptoms that do not sound like stomach problems I can relate to them ... and I do have anxiety which actually make them worse .
( I believe The French diet are pretty high in fat and/or carbs , but they are healthier than Americans ? Real butter and no margarine , for ex. )

Want to know what you guys think-
I started having a pain on my right side below my ribs when I ran-I thought it was a stitch from lack of oxygen but couldn't breathe through it and had to stop running it was so painful. The next day simply walking hurt and felt tight underneath ribs. The pain was small and sharp. I went to the doctor to make sure nothing was serious: they told me that there are a few things on the right side that could be serious (kidney stones, gull bladder) so ran some tests, checked my blood, all normal no infection. The first post on this page is most like what I have. Don't know if I have a temp, but feel like I need to burp all the time and can't, and sometimes stuff comes up if I do. I was given one medicine to relax my stomach (doc thought it could be from stress), the other an H2 blocker (so my stomach doesn't produce too much acid).
Neither is really doing much, still have the pain, and am now constipated. Just wondering what you know of the symptoms and what you think I shoud ask the doc to check next.
I have sore throat which I am not sure if is related. Also, had been to a doctor last year with chest pain and was told it was an inflamation of the joints where my ribs connect to my sternum.

Which H2 blocker did they give you?All of the symptoms you mentioned can be attributed to gerd. How long have you had the pain below the ribs?Take care.

I was given a generic version of zantac. I haven't had the pain for long, about a week. That's why I thought it could be something like a hernia or a pulled muscle or my appendix (sp?).
